it seems to me that republicans are joining democrats in panic to advocate socialism.
If banks will also give a moratorium on mortgage payments,etc, that makes sense.

the notion of a moratorium on rents is concerning because it goes beyond small business to whoever the landlord is— and the landlord may be depending on that rent for a substantial part of his or her income.
Why just for businesses? Why not all rents, all debts? Heck, why not just burn it all down while we are at it?
There a decent chance that this Chinese Coronavirus outbreak will die down if we have widespread use of the “compassionate treatment” drug hydroxychloroquine, IMHO.

Yep. This is an instructive moment to observe how people on all sides react to situations like this. Some use it as an opportunity to push their agendas. Some people are still in denial. Trump has generally been outstanding and has displayed strong leadership but even he seems to be consumed by this.

How about a moratorium on property taxes?
As an investor in Commercial Multifamily (apartment complexes), I can tell you that all this “eviction moratorium” crap is generating a lot of panic. People trying to buy complexes are being told their loans wont go thru. Those that already have complexes are seeing tenants not wanting to pay rent, but still having mortgages, and in the case of “all bills paid” complexes, utilities that need to be paid. Nobody is thinking through the provider chain to see the ramifications of these instant policies, and if they don’t start thinking through the provider chain pretty quick, we will have a housing crisis that makes 2008 look like a cute baby burp. Most apartment complexes are NOT owned by big multinationals, but they are expensive, and you really don’t want to see what would happen to the economy if they start to default on their loans.
