Monday six Bay Area counties announced a shelter in place order, the most restrictive measure announced anywhere in the United States, in response to the coronavirus. The idea was to completely shut down transmission of the virus by having everyone stay home for a period of three weeks. How is that working out so far? For the most part, people have been going along with it:
The order in San Francisco bans any activities that arent essential: no drinking at bars, no haircuts by barbers and no dinner parties. Restaurants can operate only for takeout or delivery. Outdoor exercise is allowed, but gyms are closed.
The city, famous in part because of 1967s Summer of Love, is full of people who can bristle at authority. But in the first day after the mayor imposed the shutdown order, backed with the threat of jail time, residents didnt really seem to rebel.
The police department said it wasnt immediately aware of any significant resistance to the order, which would be punishable as a misdemeanor. Its daily crime recap sent to reporters Wednesday morning which covers reported crimes with violence or the threat of violence included a single reported entry from the previous day: Three suspects had punched a woman and taken her bicycle.

Did they close the bathhouses and the free needed exchange huts?
Yeah. I didn’t think so...
oops, was that racist?
Its weird watching all the homeless just standing still where they are.
You’d think the panhandlers would begin waring in the streets, like those monkeys down in Indonesia.
Like the bums are going to obey? LOL!!!
Snorted..!!
Kept weed dispensaries open. Must keep the morons stoned.
Makes me wonder what will happen in NYC WHEN they have to do this.
The “order” is unlawful, as cities have no authority to declare Martial Law.
A friend who lives in Marin county called this morning as he was driving up 101 to Santa Rosa. Said the road was deserted.
The homeless are mad about social distancing.
They have to poop within 6 ft of their sleeping bag.
So, how does takeout work if you aren’t supposed to leave your house?
I’m in SF, and it’s hard to say how well it’s working yet.
19 new confirmed cases in SF proper today (though those folks likely would have been infected before the shelter in place took effect).

You can leave your house to buy groceries or pick up food at a restaurant.
Ok, but in my defense and as is tradition here on FR, I only commented based on the post title and what was posted above. So reading the whole article isn’t part of commenting. LOL. ;^)
My commute in Phoenix has been a dream this week. I’m getting spoiled.
