Every Briton could get cash payments from the government amid fears the coronavirus crisis could leave millions of people without jobs. The extraordinary move is being considered by ministers as the scale of the economic meltdown the country faces becomes clear - with warnings that 'social distancing' measures could see GDP slump by 20 per cent and the hospitality sector effectively disappear. Boris Johnson suggested last night that a 'universal basic income' - or UBI - is among the options on the table to avoid families being plunged into poverty and mass unrest as UK plc grinds to a halt. As the global chaos escalates, US president Donald Trump has put forward similar proposals to hand most Americans payments of $1,000.

Will my universal basic salary in America be on top of my job salary??
Free money for everyone!!
What’s each American’s share of the national debt right now?
double it!!
that is bovine excrement. If people are off of the job, let them apply for unemployment, there is typically a two week waiting period, we have systems in place, use those systems don’t start throwing a bunch of money to everyone, where the heck are they going to spend it anyway.

Free ! Free! Free just means let the kids pay for it
Where’s the commercial or video showing a toddler happily playing suddenly being demanded to pay its thousands of dollars share of the national debt ? When the toddler breaks into screaming” HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO ME ???” in tears ? posted this in my website

Let’s all just stoke the fires of hyperinflation, as billions of new dollars chase good that will be ever more scarce as the shutdown closes factories, including food packaging plants. And for those who think they can bake their own bread, just who is going to produce the flour if even those factories are shuttered?
We have created a “just in time” economy, that depends on a constant flow of raw materials to production facilities, to warehouses, to retail outlets. When any link in that chain is disrupted, demand will quickly cause shortages. Just a week ago, before the madness hit Canada, our food supply chain was almost unaffected. Fresh food was coming in from the US and Mexico, processing plants were operating, and regular deliveries were arriving at grocery stores. Even then, demand was stripping cleaning supplies, antibacterial wipes, toilet paper, but flower, sugar, boxed goods, canned soup, meat and fish were still plentiful.
We haven’t seen anything yet. Once basic packaged goods are no longer restocked as a result of the closure of production facilities, the real panic will set in. And how long before the trucking industry decides that it isn’t safe for its drivers and warehouse workers to be in harm’s way?
A government that can give you everything can also take everything.
Bro we haven’t had a “government” forever so stop lying to yourself
This is kingdom and you aint one of the kings.
Neither am I
I read yesterday they’ve waived the 2 week waiting period for unemployment.
Where does the money come from? From those who are working. If they don’t work, no money comes in to the government, and the government is just creating money with the wave of a magic wand.
Currency will lose its value and we’ll be worse off.
Queens? LOL! NOT!
As a bold Republican congressman announced a while back when he got his tax refund, I’ll use my check for the NRA, to save for my next SUV, and, last but not least, my church. (Anyone remember this guy?)
That is just what Senator Linda Graham cracker said on the radio this morning, just leave it to him to screw everything up. Seems to me that the IRS has a pretty good database that could be used to send checks to Americans. Of course you will have to claim it as income next year and pay taxes on it.
