Italy reported 475 deaths from the coronavirus in one day, its civil-protection agency said on Wednesday.
That's the highest death toll reported in one day by any country since the coronavirus outbreak originated in Wuhan, China, late last year.
Even at the height of China's outbreak, its highest single-day death toll was 150, on February 23. Iran and Spain, both struggling with large outbreaks, have not recorded more than 200 deaths in a single day.
As of Wednesday, the coronavirus had infected more than 35,700 people and killed nearly 3,000 people in Italy.

Lockdowns arent working very well in Europe.
I still think China had much higher numbers based on various reports. They covered up deaths of anonymous people. That same denial is not possible in most civilized, democratic countries.
Biden and Bernie never mentioned this...
“The coronavirus outbreak has brought the Italian healthcare system to the brink of collapse in a matter of weeks, with overloaded hospitals, a shortage of beds, and a lack of medical resources. That has forced medical workers to choose who to treat first.”

I wonder how it’s still spreading so easily despite the lockdown.
Lying is as natural to the communist state as is breathing to you or me.
Seems every one of the many articles tallying Italy’s deaths due the virus rings up numbers, but never do they tell us the condition of the victims.
We know there is a large quantity of Chinese working in Italian factories that were purchased by Chinese interests, and we know Italy is a graying society so we are left to guess who is dying. Is it the Chinese factory workers, or the graying society, or both, or none of the above?
It would help to know.
People were coming down with it before the lockdown.
And how would this be different if the virus hit a large American city as hard as it hit Italy? We would have the exact same situation.
It’s interesting when people die!
Seize the day (our next 24 hours)!
They started locking down nearly a month ago. Which is past the incubation period.
So the majority of new cases today were infected during the quarantine period.
Chances are, there are a high number asymptomatic cases. And they are infecting people they are holed up with.
On the Diamond Princess cruise ship, 20% of passengers tested positive for COVID-19, but never developed any symptoms.

says we are on the same trajectory.
I saw the set up hospital rooms on news reports where they were caring for patients, they were pretty bad AND did not look very sanitary, I thank God every day I was born in the good old USA!!!!
Wow, I keep watching the Italian deaths for a peak and it just doesn’t happen.

Are they still overwhelmed? Good question. We’re getting fewer reports from inside China. The censors are getting the hang of censoring medical terms and videos - something they needed weeks to figure out. While American reporters have left, European reporters presumably are on the case. But they are undoubtedly being monitored more closely than before. And now that the government has designated Uncle Sam as the foreign enemy behind the bug, credulous locals might be leery of speaking to foreign reporters.
If I were companies over there I would not trust that this virus has passed enough for their factories to be open!! I guess it doesnt matter though since all of the workers are Chinese!!! You know these people are being forced to work sick!!!
The difference with us and Italy is we have President Trump who stopped flights from China early on. Italy, a small country, had a much higher portion of people flying non-stop into it from China.
No No No it was China according to world org WHO...you must have it all wrong! shame shame shame!
