I work for a medical facility in a non clinical role. I could easily work from home. I’m 62. I’m still required to come in to work.

Either the threat is overblown, or my employer is trying to reduce retirement costs.

That’s a start, now tell us what underlying conditions they had as well...

Why are you picking on corona virus-2019 (covid-19) for 80% deaths of 65+ people ??

Excuse me, but 80% of ALL deaths are always over65 age...YEAR after YEAR.

The CDC and the WHO get highest award for political correctness and the refusal to release complete information. What is the race of those who become infected, become seriously ill or die? Are not population genetics important when analyzing any pandemic? What were the actual underlying medical conditions of all who became seriously ill or died? What medications were they taking ? What weren’t they taking? Were they smokers? Were they using alcohol or not?

All that information is available and could be released. What are they hiding and why?

I’m almost there (64) and STILL think this about 75% panic-driven hysterical over-reaction.
Unless my spidey sense tagline turns out to be well-founded, in which case we could be hosed regardless all the ‘precautions’.

Here are the leading causes of death by age in 2010
https://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/images/LCD/10LCID_All_Deaths_By_Age_Group_2010-a.gif
(too big a graph to post)

Old folks die of septicemia and flu more than young folks. Always been the case. Ridiculous to destroy the economy over this.

And most younger probably have comorbidities.

Still, it is in general worse than flu, being out of commission longer.

CDC must be filled with affirmative action placeholders. The age percentage is much less useful than the percentage having pre-existing conditions. No need to quarantine healthy people just because they are over 65.

Based on the experience on the Diamond Princess, even if one is over age 50 and contracts the disease, one is STILL likely (>50%) to have asymptomatic disease.

Only on the age 80-89 group does it differ; in that group only about 45% were asymptomatic.

Millenials, it's party time!
Bring Out Your Grandad

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

The false positive rate was 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old fart’s life, it's worth it.

Revisit, why didn’t the swine flu pandemic that killed 14000 Americans make it to the media or crash the stock market? The fish is stinkin

Gulp.

We check off a few boxes here.. I’ve been lying low last few days..

Wifey and gang has been doing as much of a ‘normal’ schedule, walk, eat, jabber, and they’re all senior plus a click or two, fingers crossed.

Oh vell. Life sucks (No, not really, it could be a lot worse.) sometimes.
