Eighty percent of deaths associated with the coronavirus in the United States were in adults aged 65 and older, according to an analysis released Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The risk for serious disease and death in COVID-19 cases among persons in the United States increases with age, the CDC said. Social distancing is recommended for all ages to slow the spread of the virus, protect the health care system, and help protect vulnerable older adults.
The analysis looked at 44 cases from Feb. 12 through March 16 and found that 34 percent of deaths were reported among adults aged 85 and older. Forty-six percent of deaths were reported among those aged 65 to 84. Adults between the ages of 20 and 64 made up 20 percent of the deaths.
Public health officials and experts have warned for weeks that the elderly are at the highest risk of dying from the coronavirus. The analysis lined up with data released by China, which showed 80 percent of deaths there were in adults aged 60 and older.

29 deaths out of the single nursing home can skew the stats. They were hit early and didn’t have all of today’s precautions in place.
okay, so lets stop the country and destroy it....
When youre young, you think youll live forever. You dont start thinking about mortality until you turn 40.
Well done, well done.
I think he’s retired now..........He was at the Pensacon comic expo...................
The CDC and the WHO get highest award for political correctness and the refusal to release complete information. What is the race of those who become infected, become seriously ill or die? Are not population genetics important when analyzing any pandemic? What were the actual underlying medical conditions of all who became seriously ill or died? What medications were they taking ? What weren’t they taking? Were they smokers? Were they using alcohol or not?
All that information is available and could be released. What are they hiding and why?
It just popped into my head...............the song, not the virus................
I’m 68 now just over the 65 line. So I keep looking for the comforting statistic that says...
Of the 85% of deaths over 65...
* 10% are 65-70
* 20% are 70-75
* 50% are 75-80
* 20% are over 80
But that hasn’t been published.
I've read/heard that young people that get coronavirus and make a recovery in fact have permanent lung damage that reduces lung function by 20%.
I doubt this news will keep them off the beach either.
If your old or young and have a lung or immune problem,,you need to be careful..
The beach today was like another day...Walmart was not because there is nothing left to buy..
This country is run by a bunch of government bureaucrat's that really should be doing something else..
We know a couple the husband has lung problems for years...there getting there food delivered by Public Markets..or we leave stuff at there door..
Looks to me like the CDC just panicked before they had any real information..
As for closing schools...why not close them for a week and then see where we are..not the whole year.
Hell its the grand parents who are stuck taking care of the kids..
I’m almost there (64) and STILL think this about 75% panic-driven hysterical over-reaction.
Unless my spidey sense tagline turns out to be well-founded, in which case we could be hosed regardless all the ‘precautions’.
Love that song!
(ahem)Easy does it. I'm 76.
it would be fitting justice for Kim Jong Un and Xi Ping to come down with it and be unrecoverable.
These a@@clowns are monsters. Monsters. As are the completely looney military leaders of the Chi-Coms. Nuclear cautery might be a solution, once we find out the truth of the “non-recovery” in Wuhan and all the way to the Thai border, including 50K plus Uyghurs in forced labor camps-— all dead, and the sulphur dioxide plumes of massive smoke from the burned bodies was detected by our satellites. Obscured on the net 6 weeks ago.
Here are the leading causes of death by age in 2010

(too big a graph to post)
Old folks die of septicemia and flu more than young folks. Always been the case. Ridiculous to destroy the economy over this.
And most younger probably have comorbidities.
Still, it is in general worse than flu, being out of commission longer.
if you have any kind of comorbidities your employer probably needs to let you WFH as an ADA accommodation
