For years, Chicago attorney Jill Rose Quinn has wanted to be a judge.
But for the longest time, Quinn said, she didnt think she could land a seat on the bench.
I didnt think the people would accept a transgender judge, Quinn told the Tribune.
But on Tuesday night, with most precincts reporting, Quinn declared victory after taking a large lead in her bid to become the Democratic nominee for a Cook County judicial vacancy. If she holds on, that likely would make her the fourth openly transgender judge across the country and the first transgender candidate in Illinois voted into public office.
She also was inspired to pursue a career in law by the Marvel comic book character Daredevil, a ninja who was blinded as a child but who also practices law. In her office, Quinn keeps a Daredevil portrait on the wall.
From a political standpoint, Quinn had several things going for her candidacy: Shes been rated qualified or recommended by 13 different local bar agencies, drew top position on the ballot and has a strong electoral name.
She was also endorsed by the Cook County Democratic Party, which is often pivotal in down-ballot judicial races. Lori Lightfoot, Chicagos first African American woman and gay mayor, also threw her support to Quinn.

A fag in a skirt...just what Chicago needs!
From all Americans of Italian descent, I say THANK YOU.
Oh great! Another sanity barrier broken! Up with deviancy!
If you’re a gay man when you chop it off, are you now a straight chick?
What if you’re a straight man when you chop it off. Are you now a lesbian?
What if you’re a bisexual hermaphrodite when you...ah, forget it.
This and alot of the other stories i’ve read these past few years has me wondering...
What is the housing market like in Illinois these days?
But not the first mentally ill Democratic candidate...
I get that these sick freaks feel that they are “women trapped in men’s bodies”; but they really suck at looking like women.
Cook CO judges are crooked as Acacia limbs, so he’ll fit right in.
Former name was similar to the celebrated football coach. At the risk of being cynical, one wonders if the legal name change was designed to draw votes?
You mean like De Blasio? AKA willhelm?
Yes.
So are the bar association ratings for judicial candidates — one jury trial as a lawyer rates a bar association ranking as “qualified” to serve as a judge? The process seems rigged by the PC crowd.
Lol, everyone who wants to be a judge in Chicago changes their name to an Irish name. Even people who are already Irish change their names to sound even MORE Irish.
Now what the media doesn’t say is that this is because racist Chicago democrats are all lip service when it comes to race relations. They certainly do not want blacks sitting on the court bench, so they vote only for people with Irish names in an attempt to keep them out.
Women are beauty and grace. men are not! When a man wears the trappings of beauty and grace it is a huge aesthetic fail and goes completely against our senses.
No, you’re not cynical, in Chicago that is exactly why judicial candidates change their names. White democrats in Chicago only vote for judges with “white sounding” names because they don’t want black judges, so everyone wants to be “Seamus O’Flaherty” come election time.
There are no good elected Democrats....
Interesting how a country accepts depravity.
Mentally ill judge.
Swell.
This has voting pattern been studied because most voters are wholly unaware of who the judicial candidates are and usually vote based upon gender and ethnicity. The most successful candidate names are usually those of women with Irish surnames.
For whatever reason, Irish candidates fare better with voters from other ethnic backgrounds. Most voters identify with their own ethnic group, but like the Irish too. A Polish lawyer who lost a primary race changed his last name legally, moved to a new judicial circuit and won when he appeared on the ballot as “O’Malley.”
Many women voters choose female candidates. A lone woman candidate in a Democratic primary race against two or more males will usually win.
Quinn changed name and gender and the Democrats were willing to embrace the candidate in the name of diversity.
