What is the Coronavirus shutdown endgame?
Boston Herald ^ | 3/15/20 | John Greenman

Social distancing makes all the sense in the world in the pivotal early stage of a fast-moving outbreak like this coronavirus. We must prevent our hospitals and ICUs from being overwhelmed as Italy’s currently are, not only for those struggling with this particular bug, but for all others who depend upon them.

We need to flatten the curve. We don’t want infections growing exponentially so that large numbers of vulnerable people get infected and some fraction of those people die.

What I do not understand, and I’m worried nobody has thoroughly thought through, is how long we’re supposed to cancel mass gatherings, keep museums closed and the like, and what any of this has to do with the progress of the pandemic.

Yes, there’s a possibility that we get rescued by the weather. Warmer weather makes it harder for some viruses to thrive. There’s a possibility a vaccine comes online sooner than any medical professionals anticipate, which is a year or 18 months at the soonest.

But setting those possibilities aside for a moment, consider a few scenarios.

That’s the big question... how long do we do these lockdowns? Sure the alarmists think the answer is “as long as necessary or we get a vaccine” but that is not realistic. It’s not possible.

What happens when economies begin to collapse? What happens when millions are laid off? How long are schools to remain closed? What happens when supply chains are disrupted to a point hospitals can’t even get medical supplies? What happens when people start running out of food?

At that point the lockdowns become more harmful and deadly than the virus itself. We can’t keep the country and economy shut down indefinitely. So what’s the endgame? What’s the plan in 1-2 months after we have “flattened the curve?”

It’s only temporary but there is no end in sight. Feel comforted.

That’s what I’ve been wondering. When and how does this thing ever end?

I wonder how FR would react if this was a president obumber that was shutting down the economy over a couple hundred flu deaths in America or less then 10k in the whole world. Especially when the normal flu kills almost 100x that. I for one would be outraged, just like I am now. Trumps not alone in this, but it is unbelievably stupid what they are doing.

Screw the curve. Quarantine the old, I mean real institutional quarantine, and then let it rip through the young at maximum speed. They end up 99%+ ok and at least can work throughout it.

Warm weather should reduce the spread.

Miniskirts and short-shorts should help.

Well, nowadays, maybe not.

Look how many back then were indignant because they felt he did too little with H1N1.

So who knows.

Latest scuttlebutt from our company is a return to normal by the end of August. Trump is going to have to channel his inner FDR to play this right.

Not only that but we would gain herd immunity the more people get infected and fight it off. That alone would reduce transmission.

FDR? I hope not. Warren Harding played his recession much better.

Like the grasslands, controlled burn eliminates the supply of material.

Depends if politicians are willing to go against the CDC. The health officials will never give an all-clear until we have a vaccine. They will push for lockdowns as long as politicians are willing to follow.

Something has to give eventually. Not sure when that happens.

I honestly think that the dems/MSM want to keep the panic going until election day which isn’t possible but they’ll try it anyway. imagine that, keeping this situation going for two and a third seasons. They are that stupid but they have nothing else.

I’ve predicted that the lockdowns will last no more than 2 weeks before people begin openly defying them — starting with small business owners who are on the brink of financial ruin.

I see no reason to shut down anything. Emphasis and precautions should be exclusively centered on the older and infirm. (for which I chronologically now qualify, btw) , not the rest of the country or economy or retirement accounts.

The benefits of a shutdown are rapidly proving more harmful than the very low risk of fatalities that we see with the annual flu.

This realization is slowly seeping into the conscientiousness of lots of peeps.

Depends upon how low President Trump’s approval ratings go.

When they’re low enough to please the Dems and the Enemy Media, this ‘pandemic’ will immediately evaporate. :(

The end game will be non-compliance. Businesses going broke will just open up and start serving customers. People tired of sitting home will just start going out and shopping/traveling. Some people will comply for a while, but a couple of weeks of this and people will just say “I’m under 60, screw this. Sorry Grandma.”

I would NOT put it past the Chinese communist party to start a global pandemic, just to assure that President Trump is removed from office.

They are aware that President Trump is a long-term threat to not only their long-term global hegemony plans, but also to the damage that President Trump is causing them due to trade policies and the revelation that US trade negotiators, as well as many politicians, actually owe more allegiance to China than the USA, due to the lucrative payouts to people like Bloomberg, the Biden Family, and American industries, including media, sports and entertainment.

We all know of the fact that the Chinese government places practically no value on the lives of its own people, as demonstrated by their mass incarcerations, forced abortions, and use of political prisoners as sources for organ transplants.

They’re aware that President Trump is an existential threat to their current and future plans, and they realize that their only chance to get rid of him is to crash the American economy.
