In its quest to be more lethal than Americas adversaries, the Marine Corps is rolling out a new grenade launcher.
The M320A1 has a range of 150 meters on a single target, which might be a window, and a 350-meter maximum range on an area target, according to The Washington Times.
The new grenade launcher can be used by itself or mounted onto another weapon, such as the M27 rifle.

Nice. Gun show loophole should make it possible for us to pick up one or two. With shoulder goes up thingy attachment and two hand forward grip. Take out only.

Much hoopla over minor improvement.
Uses the same ammo so range is the same. The primary difference as stated in the article is side load vs bottom load. As an former infantryman who scored expert with the M203 ... meh.
Acceptable change - yeah sure why not.
Breathless anticipation of a new weapon system. No, not really.

Couple things -
1. It can now accommodate the newer longer munitions in 40mm and it’s a lot smaller. This means it can fire the new Pike mini-missile and the M203 can’t. The 320 can fire everything the 203 can, but there’s an increasing number of things the 320 can fire that the 203 can’t even chamber. Think of the 320 as the .357 Magnum revolver to the 203’s .38 Special revolver and you’ll get the idea on ammo.
2. An underbarrel mounted unit can be taken off the rifle and directly used independently as needed without any conversion parts being required. The 203 can’t do that.
Also, the M320 has been in use in the Army for much of the last decade, so while it is (classically) new to the Marines, it’s not actually new.

I’m with you. Too bad the ammo couldn’t have been upgraded. Of course this will get rave reviews, anyway! Who doesn’t like to blow crap up!?
