Ohio is one of four states slated to hold primaries on Tuesday
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday night invoked a health emergency to force the closure of polls after a judge declined to delay the state's primary election Tuesday over coronavirus concerns.
"During this time when we face an unprecedented public health crisis, to conduct an election tomorrow would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at an unacceptable health risk of contracting coronavirus. As such, Health Director Dr. Amy Acton will order the polls closed as a health emergency, DeWine announced.
While the polls will be closed tomorrow, Secretary of State Frank LaRose will seek a remedy through the courts to extend voting options so that every voter who wants to vote will be granted that opportunity," he added.
Hours earlier, a county judge refused to delay Tuesdays primary.
"There are too many factors to balance in this uncharted territory to say that we ought to take it away from the legislature and elected statewide officials, and throw it to a common pleas court judge in Columbus with 12 to go to the election. So the application for a temporary restraining order is denied," Judge Richard Frye said.
The Ohio governor and secretary of state explained their concerns about the ruling.
"The only thing more important than a free and fair election is the health and safety of Ohioans. The Ohio Department of Health and the CDC have advised against anyone gathering in groups larger than 50 people, which will occur if the election goes forward. Additionally, Ohioans over 65 and those with certain health conditions have been advised to limit their nonessential contact with others, affecting their ability to vote or serve as poll workers. Logistically, under these extraordinary circumstances, it simply isnt possible to hold an election tomorrow that will be considered legitimate by Ohioans. They mustnt be forced to choose between their health and exercising their constitutional rights."

A Republican Governor. Gotta be driving the Rats crazy.
I could see one out of three folks who normally vote....staying home.
I agree with the governor on this one, not a lot else hes doing though.
Guess well have to postpone November elections until November 2021. Take that Trump. Heeheeheee!
Big fight!...Big fight!
Fun in the school yard...
So you like facism.
Judicial or Executive? 1 Executive vs. 157 judges who just make up shit on the fly. You tell me where the facism resides?

Honestly, fledermaus, thats so weak. Whether this crisis is suffiently pressing to justify the draconian measures across the country is one thing, but postponing an election under these circumstances is plainly within proper exercise of the police power of the state
Grow up
Why dont you grow up. Cheap insults like fascist are what the other side uses in lieu of reasoned discussion. We can get that level of mindless name calling all day every day on CNN, MSNBC, etc. We can do better than that. Your most recent is just more of the same caliber of intellectual expression.
Why did the state even bother going to court? They were just going to ignore any ruling that went against them. Some precedents are being set in these times that the US population may regret some day.
Right. Shutting down business isn’t facist. I get it. Just do what your government tells you are they’ll put you in a gulag.
“Can’t stay open past 9 pm” like folks before then are okay but after are at risk. “100 or less customers” like 95 is fine but 105 will kill us all. Arbitrary facism coming from “experts” and bureaucrats who I’m sure aren’t following the same rules they impose.
H1N1 was 20 times worse and NO ONE panicked like now. This is what tyrants do, gin up the masses to follow their edicts.
F off.
It doesnt take much to set you off, does it? Such a self-righteous jerk you are. My only point in my original post is that postponing an election, when a key voting demographic has been told by the authorities Not to go out may be undue panic, may be Ill advised, but its well within common law police power, and is therefore not fascist.
And watch your mouth. You know profanitys not allowed here.
blah blah blah.
Doesn’t take much for you tell others what to say or do or write or behave or act...
Frankly I don’t give a crap about not having a Dem primary postponed, it’s their primary and they make their rules. Just pointing out the ridiculous idea.
Just 14 days ago in TN, during this “pandemic” (actually a Damn Panic) I waited 2 hours in a line to vote for Trump in a primary he’s already won. 20,000 more that voted for the Dems.
9/11 didn’t cause this level of panic. And no, I won’t watch my mouth.
I wouldn’t call Dewine a Republican.
Judge proves the saying “the law is an ass”.
