Mayor Bill de Blasio announced late Sunday that the Big Apples nightlife will shut down and its restaurants and bars will only provide take-out or delivery service as authorities struggle to get ahead of the mounting coronavirus pandemic.
The restrictions will take effect Tuesday at 9 a.m. and are similar to measures announced in Ohio, Washington DC and across much of western Europe, all of which have been hit by the deadly virus, too.
Our lives are all changing in ways that were unimaginable just a week ago, de Blasio said in a statement released by City Hall, which acknowledged the step was drastic.
We are taking a series of actions that we never would have taken otherwise in an effort to save the lives of loves ones and our neighbors.

The city that never sleeps will take a nap now.
de Blasio vs. drunks. ;D
Breaking: WA state has closed dining in, takeout and drive through only.
Interesting how quickly the same people who claim to be all about the little guy with minimum wage stuff etc turn around and advocate policy that puts them out of a job.
Los Angeles just announced the same
Recently was in manhattan driving from harlem to bowling green driving showing family from midwest who had never been to NY. Didnt pass one grocery store except zabars and bodegas. There are 27k restaurants in nyc. With only take out where do they get food?
I’d like to see the bar industry file suit about being singled out.
Many will never recover.
Just wait ‘til the PANYNJ shuts down all the bridges and tunnels.
“Escape from New York” won’t just be a movie.
Wow, Monday will be a bash!
Lots of call-ins.
Ive got the virus but Ill be back by 9 AM Tuesday!
Makes me wonder if there will be a revival of speakeasy’s....
With the number of deaths so minuscule and skewed to the very elderly, how will anyone ever say it is safe to open anything again? No quantifiable metric is being given for what will be a definition of success for these freedom crushing measures.
Sick of hearing to flatten the curve, without anyone providing any data about what metric defines success for that either.
We are doing something that is going to be far worse than this virus. The upcoming depression worldwide is going to impact people far more than they can ever imagine. Allowing this virus to go through its normal progression would actually result in fewer lives lost, than the horror of the economic depression about to hit us. Our childrens futures have been mortgaged for a disease primarily impacting octogenarians.
Well it is lucky for New York that the coronavirus does not affect people who ride the subway.
You beat me to it. Any measure imposed in NYC to prevent the spread of a disease is utterly pointless if the subway is still running.
Where will the Big Apples army of hookers hang out? This will be a blow to deBlasios economy.
Cause so many Faggot republican governors aren’t doing the same thing?
A complete and utter disgrace across the country.
Makes you wonder. The subway is not privately held right?
Nope. It used to be decades ago.
