JACKSON, MI A drive-through screening station for COVID-19 is being operated in Jackson.
Henry Ford Allegiance Health began the screenings station for the disease created by the new coronavirus Saturday, March 14, on the surface lot of One Jackson Square, 100 E. Michigan Ave. Participants stay in their cars for screening, which helps limit potential exposure to the virus, the hospital system said in a news release.
We have the masks, the goggles, the protective wear and protective gloves, Dr. Pamela Hackert said.
The drive-through starts with screening questions to determine if samples should be taken, Hackert said. Participants are asked if they have symptoms, which include fever, cough and shortness of breath. They are also asked if they have been traveling, had contact with a person believed to have coronavirus or is immunosuppressant, she said.
The reason this is so important this is something that is easily spread from person to person, Hackert said. It can be spread before you actually have symptoms, which is why we do those additional screening questions, even if you dont have symptoms.
Anyone who is not showing symptoms, hasnt recently traveled and hasnt had contact with someone who might have the disease is asked to avoid using the drive-through screening so people with greater need can be seen first, the hospital system announced.
The test uses a nose swab that is sent to an outpatient lab. Results are expected in four to five days. The drive-through testing is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 15. Starting Monday, March 16, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., for the foreseeable future.
Questions about screening are directed to the Henry Ford MyCare Advice Line, open 24 hours, at 313-874-7500.
There were 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of late Saturday, March 14, state health officials said. Across the nation, cases stand at 1,629 in 47 states, with 41 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control. So far, there have been no deaths in Michigan connected with the disease.
In recent days, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has ordered the closure of all K-12 schools, starting Monday; universities and colleges have moved to online classes, and March Madness and a slew of other sporting events have been canceled.
Is this free testing? Who is paying for it?

Good questions. All I know is what is in the article.

4 to 5 days!!!, I’m no doctor or scientists but why cant there be a liquid that turns a color when the swab is placed in? quick and painless, yes or no. We do have the technology
The headline may lead to some fights at the screening station.
Everybody would expect to be tested.

Could be. I got the impression that there will be some screening done before a sample is taken, but I guess that remains to be seen.
If you thought the lines for toilet paper were bad.
You tested positive, now go home and drink chicken soup and stay home till your temperature comes down
same thing as any flu
Supposedly the Roche Diagnostics test manufactured here in Indiana is a 3 to 4 hour time to indicate.
There’s drive-up testing in my county but you need a referral from a doctor.

Right step taken here offering testing.
Jackson is the former site of Fort Custer which is where I received my 8 week basic training during the onset of the Korean war.
Whats worth repeating is that the test is a nose swab with results determined after 4 days. Costs not announced. If somebodys knows please post it here in FR
