SALT LAKE CITY - As ski resorts across the United States grappled with how to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus without having to close, industry giants Vail Resorts and Alterra Mountain Company decided Saturday they would shutter 49 of North Americas most well-known resorts.
Vail Resorts said it would shut down its 34 resorts for at least one week before reassessing while Alterra is closing its 15 until further notice. The Telluride Ski Resort in Colorado and the Aspen Skiing Company announced Saturday night that they will close ski operations, too.
The closures marked a sudden change of course after the majority of the countrys resorts vowed earlier Saturday to stay open during the crisis while taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Vails resorts include Vail, Keystone and Breckenridge in Colorado; Park City Mountain Resort in Utah; Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in the Lake Tahoe area of California and Nevada; Stowe Mountain in Vermont; and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada.
Alterras include Steamboat and Winter Park in Colorado; Squaw Valley, Mammoth and Big Bear Mountain in California; Crystal Mountain in Washington; Stratton and Sugarbush in Vermont; and Deer Valley and Solitude in Utah.

This whole thing is starting to feel like a bad dream. Help me Mr.Wizard!
It is frightening to see how easily governments and media are able to manipulate the public and businesses, and how willingly people accept the destruction of the economy, banning of public gatherings, and curfews.
If the deep state was unsure about their power and ability to control the sheeple, I think they now know just how easy it is.
This is the most absurd and dangerous thing Ive ever seen.
To see Americans cowering and pissing their pants over fever and chills is really discouraging.
Agreed. And the epicenter of this "manufactured crisis" is Wuhan China. It's cratering Western economies and interfering with the lives of billions of people.
We just came back from Santa Fe. No Spring Break lift lines, fer sure.
Closing your business has become media mandated virtue signalling. Shame on those who submit.
True, but the ski resorts, at least in Colorado, have had one of the best seasons ever with all the early snow we got, so to the resorts its not a difficult decision.
Actually it could be safe to go skiing, as long as you NEVER go indoors (to the lodge or bathroom), so it’s not easy...but doable for some people.
I'll 2nd that motion TIMES TEN!
