What is the definition of a mainstream Democrat? How does the average Democrat voter look and act? What distinguishes the modern "mainstream" Democrat from an independent or a Republican? These are not rhetorical questions. I honestly have no idea...
The Democratic Party has no positive messages to offer voters in November. The only thing Democrat voters appear to have in common is their intense, irrational hatred for President Donald Trump. What they lack is a coherent platform and any good reasons to vote for Joe Biden.

I suspect that pretty much all "mainstream" Democrats of old have left the party already and are going to Trump rallies.
As for a reason for voting for Joe Biden, the Demonrats are working on coming up with their reasons for voting for whomever they are planning to slip in in Biden's place.

Forty years ago Scoop Jackson and Hubert Humphrey were mainstream Rats. Today it's Occasional Cortex and that filthy Somali moslem whore.

Two late Senators from my home state, Warren G. Magnuson and Henry (Scoop) Jackson would qualify - both anti-communists and strong on defense. "Maggie" liked to show up at USN ship launchings to work the crowd, shook my hand at one such event - I never voted for either one, but had respect for them.
They both passed away in the 80's.

There are no mainstream Democrat politicians and there never were, although some pretended to be “moderate”. They have always devised to increase the power of the state through regulation, increasing number of laws, depriving us of our rights, and finally, by starting wars, which helps to accomplish the other goals.
