RUSH: Now, there are other things still related to this that we didnt get into in the first hour. And, you know, Trumps banning travel from Europe. Democrats not happy about this, folks. They do not like losing their precious travel from their precious European Union even for a day. Some people have asked, What did you think of presidents speech last night? You didnt say. I thought he gave the right speech at the right time.
Look, I know some people get frustrated. My gosh, couldnt they do something with the sound? You could hear the president breathing. You can hear him breathing whenever he speaks! Hes got Its part of his speech pattern. Ive grown accustomed to it. Maybe some sound people could do something to limit it by turning down the compression. But (sigh) Look, he did what he had to do.
He was purposely dour because thats what the media and the Democrats are demanding. He read from the prompter. Thats what they think is presidential. Ive had a lot of people say, Thats not Trumps best format! He should just launch, he should Right. But understand what this was last night. This wasnt a Trump rally. This was a presidential address from the Oval Office.
Of course, these lamebrains on the left have this idea of what is presidential and what isnt, and reading a teleprompter which takes hardly any skill whatsoever is considered presidential. So he read the teleprompter, he stuck to the script, he was dour, he was serious. As far as these people are concerned, thats how you define presidential in their stupid, boring world.
So he did what he had to do. Politically, it was wise. I mean, folks, I cannot tell you how much the left in this country hates the idea of shutting travel from their beloved European Union. But because Trump did it, now theyre gonna have to go on record either opposing the travel ban or supporting it and if they oppose the travel ban, its gonna be lethal for them.
They may as well come out and proclaim that theyre for open borders, which we all know that they are. In any case, these shutdowns may clamp down the virus and the hysteria because I guarantee you I asked you before the break, Can anybody tell me the number of coronavirus deaths in the United States? (interruption) You looked it up, did you? You had to look it up because you didnt know off the top of your head.
The one thing missing in all of this panic-driven coronavirus news is what? The number of deaths in the United States! Why, we get stories, My God, a player in the NBA actually touched a microphone of a media person. The NBAs canceling the season! Oh, my God! Tom Hanks and his wife are in Australia filming an Elvis movie, and theyve got the coronavirus. Are we gonna have to stop going to movies?
Can it spread from the screen to the audience? Oh, my God! Is it that bad? In all of this panicked reporting, whats the one thing missing? The death toll. You dont hear about the death toll, do you? Do you know what the total is? Im not gonna tell you. Ill tell you this. About 60% of the death toll has happened in one place, and I dont mean one city. I mean in one place in one city.
Now, you would think with a panic of this kind, with this magnitude, that the central reporting figure would be the number of people dying, and yet? Well, thats not part of the reporting at all. Yet go back. The swine flu: 18,000 people dead, 60 million infected, 300,000 hospitalized in 2009-2010. You know another reason why that didnt make any big news? Its because thats when Obama was selling Obamacare!
Of course, the swine flu helped push the notion for government-run health care. So the swine flu coming along when it did in 2009-2010, the media glommed right onto it and used that to promote Obamacare. There was no way Obama was gonna be ripped or criticized for presiding over a runaway, mad period of swine flu infectious and death. No way. (interruption) You still dont know the death toll? You cant find it. Folks, youre gonna have a tough time finding it. (interruption)
How long did it take you to find the death toll, Snerdley, and where did you find it? Less than a minute, okay, but what ? (interruption) Okay. Did you go to a specific website, or did you just ? (interruption) Did you do a Google search coronavirus death toll? (interruption) And what site did it take you to? You even forgot what the website was already? All right.
Okay. Ill tell you what number he found in his site search. (interruption) Thirty-nine, did you say? Do you know that 26 of those deaths have occurred in a nursing home in Seattle, Washington state? You take the 26 deaths out of the equation from the nursing home in Washington state and how many deaths are we talking about? And yet we are react this way? Were wrecking the United States economy!
We are literally destroying the stock market. Were telling people not to go to work! Were telling people not to congregate with people. Were shutting down the freaking NBA season (which, big deal). But now Major League Baseballs getting ready to kick off. Oh, what are they gonna do about March Madness, Mr. Snerdley?
What are they gonna do about the NCAA and what are they gonna do with upcoming the first major of the PGA season? That would be the Masters. Can you imagine the Masters without the patrons? Can you imagine the Masters without the gallery? Would they do it? In fact, I would think golfers might actually like it with no fans in there, no noise, no distraction. But I could be wrong about that.
And in the midst of all this you get to turn on TV and listen to how incompetent the president is and how incapable he is at dealing with such complex situations. What are we talking about? Anthony Fauci of the National Institutes for Health has been all over television telling anybody who would listen the most important thing that happened here was Trump limiting and banning travel from China in January. Fauci is saying if that hadnt happened itd be much worse in America than it is.
Are they ignoring him? Yes. Theyre focusing on other things Fauci is saying, but theyre ignoring that. Anyway, Trump doing all of the stuff that these little Chihuahuas were ankle-biting him to do, they now either have to oppose it as unnecessary or say that travel bans were too late, which they cant do given their open borders creed.
So Trumps kind of playing it, I think, brilliantly on the political front. You might not have liked the way he sounded. You might not have liked the way he looked. But what he did and what he said in that Oval Orifice address last night has presented several dilemmas for the Democrats. He stayed on script. He was dour, which means they cant find much to smear him with because he stayed on script and he was presidential.
I dont like all these shutdowns. I think this is so overblown. But remember, this is political. Everybodys, No, Rush, its not political. Its a health issue. Yeah, I wish it were. If it were being treated as a health issue strictly, itd be one thing. But it is political. And so in that context, it was the wise thing to do. And maybe in three to four weeks itll stop the new case increases that are fueling the panic, cause its not the death toll thats fueling the panic. Its something else.
Isnt that amazing, by the way, folks? The death toll is not part of any of the reporting. Is that fascinating to you, or is that something that only fascinates me?
Well, instead of just posting a statistics equation, why dont you fill in the variables so we can follow your logic? Parabolic, hyperbolic, exponential, or what I am seeing - linear.
It’s just getting started here. It’s more contagious than flu. It’s at least ten times deadlier than flu. Half the population will get coronavirus. That’s a million and a half dead Americans. That’s if we don’t come up with some effective treatments for this very fast. A quickly developed and distributed vaccine is wishful thinking at this point.
Any publicly traded casket makers and funeral home chains? This sounds like a windfall...
Daily increase (difference from previous day starting March 1st): 18->15->28->26->65->77->123->167->198->266->309->341 (count not finished)
This is an Nd+1 of .35 - which is a doubling rate of 2 days. It's been very consistent. If it were a linear increase - the daily increase would go up by 100 every day - or some other consistent number. It isn't - this is a logarithmic increase. That is very clear in the data. It is very clear it is a .35 multiple (with a .05 margin of error).
So - go grab a calculator - and do some simple math: Take 1670 (the current number of cases) and multiply it by 1.3 (the low Nd+1) or heck - make it 1.2 for all I care - and do that 30 times.
That is your number of cases in one month with ZERO mitigations - no closures - nothing. That is math. That is science. Pure and simple.
Rush isn’t helping this at all...he’s the main mouth for discounting it. His comments about Covid haven’t been useful at all...sorta makes it seem like Trump repeats some of Rush’s nonsense.
If I havent been tested, how do you know whether I have it or not? I have had a runny nose and sore throat for a week. Am I just non-symptomatic? I am sure there are millions who fall into that category. Tom Hanks and his wife for one. Cold symptoms.
You tell me where the problem is?
+++++
Call me back in a couple of months. Wildfires start out very small. But if they double in size ever 2-3 days for months you will have an uncontrollable fire on your hands.
If we could hold the virus at the infection level it is currently at your analysis would be correct. Unfortunately we cannot. The measures Trump is putting in place are only intended to slow it down and to keep the peak number of infections as low as possible.
In 2009 we had 60,000,000 infections of Swine Flu in the U.S. That is not a typo, 60 million. In that case the fatality rate was very low. I have read there were between 12,000 and 18,000 deaths.
Get out you calculator and multiply 60,000,000 times 1%. You would get 600,000 deaths. And right now the death rate looks much higher but the experts tell us they expect something like 1% in the long run. And these deaths would come to pass over a period of a few months. It would be overwhelming.
And at the rate we are going 60,000,000 is not out of the question. Hopefully the Trump measures will slow it way down and we will never reach that peak.
Rush is, unfortunately, wrong. He has been wrong quite a bit lately. Didnt he tell us the the Joe Biden candidacy was dead, dead, dead?

Good post! To many people focusing on raw death numbers...more important are the spread rate and “seriousness” (hospitalization/intubation/ventilation) stats of COVID-19.
Reads as though you are a prime candidate for a virus test.
Have you made arrangements to do that.
This too shall pass.
When you look at ‘resolved’ cases vs. deaths you’re only seeing numbers for people who were sick enough to be hospitalized.
Stay tuned - you have two weeks. Go circle it on your calendar (give me a day or two either side). Have a good day.
But you’re not following the rules. Some people here think it is important to get the numbers right.
Now you are messing up the whole plan.
If you are, and you probably are NOT infected, then that will be one “miss” OR “cured.”
See how that works.
Okie dokie.
I guess you are right. Ill head off to the ER tomorrow and get tested. Ill probably catch the flu there and really die.
Crusty, you gave me a GOOD LAUGH.
Thank you very much.
STAY OUT OF THAT ER!
How about auto deaths, average 200 per day killed, and average 6000 (thousand) a day (day) seriously injured, many if not majority with lifelong debilitation as a result.
We do not stop the US economy, or the world, for it. Why not?
Same question for every single pandemic, you know the list.
Is this one different because it is so Contagious? Fatal?
Gee, I didn’t realize you held me in such high esteem. I’m flattered
