I'm a doctor in a major hospital in Western Europe. Watching you Americans (and you, Brits) in these still-early days of the coronavirus pandemic is like watching a familiar horror movie, where the protagonists, yet again, split into pairs or decide to take a tour of a dark basement.
The real-life versions of this behavior are pretending this is just a flu; keeping schools open; following through with your holiday travel plans, and going into the office daily. This is what we did in Italy. We were so complacent that even when people with coronavirus symptoms started turning up, we wrote each off as a nasty case of the flu. We kept the economy going, pointed fingers at China and urged tourists to keep traveling. And the majority of us told ourselves and each other: this isn't so bad. We're young, we're fit, we'll be fine even if we catch it.

Also, the Italian medical system is apparently two-tiered to a disastrous degree wherein the elite can expect something close to 1st world medical services, the rest, particularly the unimportant, not first world. So comparing us to Italy doesn’t make sense.

I understand Italy has the oldest mean population in all of Europe.
And ....it has been reported that there’s been lots of business or tourist travel between china and Italy. .....love confirmation on that.
Both could explain the explosion in Italy....that and socialized medicine.

There is some little outpost of civilization that has not yet been infected and all the rest of the world is dead. The little outpost knows the end is coming. They are waiting for the black cloud of death that began in a chicom wet fish market (yeah, sure) three years ago. They will all die and mankind will have ended.

I’m fed up with this manufactured panic that has become all too real. We have reached a tipping point and the fear is feeding on itself egged on by the media and anyone who can lay hands on a keyboard. The economic crisis they have created will be much worse and much longer lasting than the virus sickness ever will be.
Why don’t you follow President Trump’s advice, and get over the partisanship.
This is about life and death. It is past time to get real about that.
Yeah, 196 people die in Italy, mostly elderly weak people and those with immune system issues & suddenly it’s going to kill everyone. Does he mention in the article that over 97% of those infected are already healthy, like getting over any flu ?
I’ve just learned you can catch coronavirus on the internet. You should log off and hide, it’s your only hope.
