Some 150,000 illegal immigrants from 72 nations with cases of the coronavirus have been apprehended or deemed inadmissible from entering the United States since November, raising the ongoing border crisis to a potential public health threat, according to officials.
New figures provided to Secrets show that over half of the nearly 300,000 illegal immigrants apprehended or deemed inadmissible this fiscal year came from nations with cases of the coronavirus, including China, Italy, Iran, and South Korea.
328 Chinese immigrants had been seized illegally crossing the border since the virus outbreak began in China.
So far, 150,958 immigrants from 72 nations with the virus have been stopped at the border. DHS has sought to return, repatriate, and remove as many as possible.
What's more, another 43,000 from Latin nations including Venezuela, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti and Nicaragua -- nations that haven't reported the virus -- have been turned away to wait.
The administration has been making the case that continuing the so-called Migrant Protection Protocols that keep immigrants in Mexico pending approval to come into the U.S. to seek asylum is both an important national security and health security issue.
MPP is all the more critical to keep Americans safe and healthy, which can only be accomplished through lawful and orderly migration, said an official.
Overcrowding at DHS facilities can lead to increased cases of easily communicable diseases other than COVID-19, such as measles, mumps, chicken pox, and the flu, warned an official.
The department also said that there are several factors raising the potential of a virus crisis at the border:
Sheer volume of migrants. Nationalities represented at the border from coronavirus-affected countries. Unique health dangers of journey to the border. Crowded conditions of DHS border facilities. Strain on healthcare system.

There are not even that many world wide, including China, who’ve had it.
And it wasn’t even known in November.
They didn’t notice that the “Hi. Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” welcoming banners have been shredded by locals and ground into the dirt.
Now it’s you and your Chinese Virus go home.
you missed the comma. What theyre saying is that there was 150,000 illegal immigrants apprehended or stopped from entering that hail from countries that have coronavirus that were stopped.
This does not give me a warm feeling knowing close to a million have made it across.
Talked with a friend of mine who has land and manages another ranch in Brooks County which is 70 miles inside our border. They nabbed 47 chinese invaders a little over a week ago.
So you're comfortable with China's numbers?
Yeah, I see that.
Weirdly written or worded.
Stopping travel from China worked.
This recent outbreak, months after the peak in China, has to have come from other places and or illigal entry.
These are the questions I’d like addressed, not non-stop hysteria, Trump bashing and human interest stories.
Who, for example brought it in to the Seatle nursing home?
“Who, for example brought it in to the Seatle nursing home?”
Yes, who was that?
Enough time has passed and yet we don’t know, so I suppose we never will be allowed to.
“So you’re comfortable with China’s numbers?”
Either way, yes.
If the numbers are low that’s evidence this is something that happened specific to China.
It would reinforce even stronger just how few cases there are outside China.
More propaganda. Look how quickly they divert the attention to a few hundred Chinese and Europeans, when looking at the picture they look overwhelmingly Latinos.
Call me skeptical, very skeptical.
The Taiwan government started preparing in late November and early December when word began getting out about a contagious Wuhan pneumonia.
Yu need to reread this.....
I think they should re-write it. :)
Chairman Xi thanks you for your confidence in his government and also for your strong support for free trade, a system that has enabled communist China to own US.
“And it wasnt even known in November.”
I believe a Dr. Xu, who blew the whistle,
then went into hiding in early December.
With the incubation period for the virus,
the first actual case would have been in
November. (but unreported). The title
for the posted article is misleading.
Understanding the phrase, “from 72 nations with cases of coronavirus” helps it make more sense...
