Former Vice President Joe Biden won the Mississippi primary on Tuesday, the latest in his string of victories in the deep south, where black voters have turned out in big numbers to support his campaign.
News outlets called the victory for Biden over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) as soon as polls closed.
Biden’s final margin of victory is not known yet, but polls showed him up by 50 points heading into Election Day, so he’ll likely win a strong majority of the 36 delegates up for grabs.
Sanders cancelled a planned event in Mississippi last week, deciding instead that his time would be better spent in Michigan, the biggest delegate prize on Tuesday.
Biden’s victory in Mississippi is the latest evidence of his strength among black voters in the south.

“At a time when Democrats correctly attack Republicans for voter suppression, it is disappointing to see people standing in long lines for hours today waiting to vote in Michigan and around the country. People should not have to miss a day of work to exercise their right to vote. This is an outrage,” Sanders said in a statement.

Mr. Biden thwarted the attempts by Mr. Sanders to harshly intimidate and pick fights with people in the African American urban community which were then to no avail.
Actually I thought Biden would be up by 20 or more points. It’s still a comfortable win for Slow Joe, but I wonder if he lost some votes today for his FOS comment to that autoworker earlier!
