The University of California-Santa Cruz reportedly canceled classes Thursday due to an ongoing strike by graduate student workers who, despite having just been fired, are still striking to demand more pay.
Faculty, students, and staff should not come to the residential campus, given that access is significantly impacted at this time, with both entrances of the residential campus remain blocked by unsanctioned strike activity, the school wrote Thursday morning on its continually updated advisory situation.

I don’t know ins and outs of labor law.
However, isn’t this labor action illegal, if they are blocking access to campus with a picket line or other actions? And considering they have been fired, presumably legally terminated, doesn’t that also add layers of legal violations on their blockade?
I remember during an NFL strike, as the players were clearing out their lockers, one player turned to the other, and asked...”Where do pick up our checks?”
I went to UCSC for a summer— you would be hard pressed to learn anything useful there.
Is it to much to expect Professors to actually teach instead of jet-setting around.
Santa Cruz is a garden spot.
Any students there are beach bums.
Suffer.
We have reached peak higher snowflake education.
Unfortunately, I don’t think so. This coming weekend I am sure I will find an article to post about something going on at some college somewhere that outdoes this.

You should learn a lot, especially in the summer. And very useful.
Just not ‘academic’ stuff.
Victor Davis Hanson graduated from UCSC.
Banana Slugs don’t work.........
Can't they be fired?
I was a TA at a California university. You sign a contract to get the position. Most importantly you are paid up front. You are paid in full prior to the start of the semester so you can cover tuition, books, living expenses etc. These students are committing fraud in that they accepted the contract and the accepted the payment. Should go to jail.
I believe that Angela Davis was a professor there for a time. My guess is that you could learn to be a Marxist surfin' beach bum there, but not a whole lot else.
Based on the way their students behave they may as well just keep them cancelled indefinitely. Not learning much of value to begin with - not even how to function in a civilized society.
They already have been - they continue the strike anyway.

Professors not willing to grade their student’s papers, quizzes and tests?
That’s like something out of a Curbed episode.
