Metropolitan Klimis of Peristeri sent a clear message in every direction at the Church of the Annunciation of the Theotokos in Peristeri and called on the faithful to receive Holy Communion without fear.
The Metropolitan of Peristeri, who presided over the Service of the Rejoicings to the Theotokos (Chairetismoi ) on the first Friday of Great Lent, stressed that the Holy Communion was the body and blood of Christ and, therefore, it could not contract any disease.

If you are around infected people, you can get this virus.
Someone could cough, sneeze, or whatever near you and you could get it.
The priest could be infected and transmit it.
And there are no studies I'm aware of that support his belief - nor is it found in Scripture.
This is filed in the same category as religious snake handlers. I strongly suspect that God does not micromanage to this extent. He does expect people to use the brains he carefully designed for them.
It’s blasphemy to suggest that God cannot cause a virulent disease to transmit in whatever manner God decides it should transmit.
Well, Who was it that created everything, including the flu?
It’s not the wafer (sorry if that is the wrong word). It’s the guy feeding you the wafer, or the lady behind you waiting her turn and coughing on you, or the guy sitting in the pew next to you.
I appreciate the priests sentiments. Thank you for posting.
It's like the old joke. A man who drowns in a flood says: "But Saint Peter, I don't understand why I am here. I put my faith in God." And St. Peter responds "we sent two boats and a helicopter. What more did you want?"
Good luck with that, licking door knobs in Wuhan Market place is probably as safe
They don’t use wafers, it is done by everyone consuming from the same spoon. I just wanted to clear that up :)
God made the germs and viruses too.
Save Thy people, O Lord,
and bless Thine inheritance.
Grant victory to Thy Church over her enemies,
and protect Thy people by Thy Holy Cross!
Keep a Good Lent!
You’re welcome. I really was curious to hear FReepers opinions regarding what he said.
If he is saying that you must have faith, then if they get sick is he willing to say that they must have faith to get well? Same thing as faith healing. Just another variety.
That joke is really a parable, isn’t it?
“My Kingdom is not of this Earth.”
Virii are, unfortunately.
Do they share the cup during communion/ mass?
Thank you. They would get it from the spoon. That’s just like licking the relics in Qom.
at least they wipe off the glass versus just licking a shrine like Iranians
