Trump Says He Has a 'Hunch' WHO Death Rate for Coronavirus Is Wrong
PJ Media ^ | 03/06/2020 | Rick Moran

Posted on 03/06/2020 7:47:42 AM PST by SeekAndFind

A firestorm has erupted over remarks about the coronavirus made by Donald Trump last night on "Hannity." He claims he has a "hunch" that the official death rate of 3.4 percent released by the WHO earlier this week is "false."

As usual, much of the coverage exaggerates the stupidity of Trump's remarks. The president's off-the-cuff thoughts about the coronavirus have been twisted to be shown in the worst possible light.

What's new?

In fact, Trump should keep his mouth shut and let others brief the public about the disease. His mixed-up facts, inexact statements, and ignorance could cause confusion -- exactly what isn't needed at this point in what is clearly an epidemic.

Politico:

"Well, I think the 3.4 percent is really a false number. Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it's very mild. They'll get better very rapidly. They don't even see a doctor. They don't even call a doctor," Trump said.

"You never hear about those people. So you can't put them down in the category of the overall population in terms of this corona flu and — or virus. So you just can't do that," he continued. "So if, you know, we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better, just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work but they get better."

Show your math, please. What did you use as a denominator? Did you remember to multiply by 100 to get a percentage?

“It may finally force many cultures to finally stop having so much physical contact during greetings, for startere.”

Just what “physical contact” do they have...everyone here thinks you have to shake hands...are they kissing on the lips? Or what...just curious

translation: Trump is calling out the WHO on a politically motivated lie.

The Donald usually speaks about that which “ he knows” and lets the MSM fall into the trap

What a dilemma. How does a Chicken Freeper reconcile supporting Trump when he calls BS on Corona hysteria?

Is Trump right or is Corona the EOTWAWKI? Make your pick.

Long term numbers.

We’ll know in 6 months kind of numbers.

Meanwhile we’re bracing for ‘impact’ supply chain disruptions.

Did you count everybody who is still sick as a survivor?

Try doing your math to calculate the survival rate.

If the percentage of survivors plus the percentage of fatalities doesn’t equal 100%, where did the all the people in the missing percentage go?

Were they kidnapped by space aliens from the planet Malcypheria, perhaps?

The cheek to cheek smooching stuff they do in other countries, for starters.

“But again, they don’t know about the easy cases because the easy cases don’t go to the hospital. They don’t report to doctors or the hospital, in many cases,” Trump said. “So I think that that number is very high. I think the number, personally, I would say the number is way under 1 percent.”

How about if he stops hunching and shut down air travel from Italy, you know, the country that is now spreading it to the rest of the states in the union?

Nothing wrong with that death rate. It is the rate of dying for people hospitalized for Corona infections. Always be sure to define the terms of a debate.

What is the death rate of infected persons? As some have already said it is unknowable. If we start random testing (not targets testing) millions of people we could then get an estimated death rate of infected persons.

And that will also likely go down with more testing.

FWIW, my numbers based on deaths over RESOLVED cases have shown a steady drop since 4 days after data started becoming available

The death rate seems to have plateaued at ≈5.8% of RESOLVED cases.

President Trump is leading the country thru the Coraonavius problem brilliantly. There is no mass panic, like the antichrist media wants.

It’s the 15% hospitalization.
It’s the economic impact.

It’s not as much about fatality rate.

I am waiting for the firestorm to breakout over the fact that China hid the outbreak for about six weeks and allowed travelers from the stricken province to spread it all over the world.

Including, perhaps, the unnamed woman of oriental appearance who grabbed the Pope's arm, tried to pull him towards her, and later had a private audience with him?

He's been off his feed lately, hasn't he?

Apparently the CDC FAILED on developing/approving test kits.

Getting the denominator is clearly a CDC failure.

Using your method the death rate would be forever changing. The true rate cannot be known until the disease stops spreading and the number of deaths can then be figured as a % of the total infected.

Anything else is guess work and politics.
