Belay my last. Back to the drawing board, or is it another chess move by the leaders in Dumbassistan. "leaders" is used very loosely.

Why does our side always agree to 5-1 release of prisoners?

Of course the Afghan government does not want a deal that would see us leave.
It’s time for us to go.

Napalm the poppy fields. Then sow the ground with salt.
Leave.

No body over there really want peace. What they have is all these idiots have known and don’t really want to change; Hatfields and McCoys Mohommad style.

I'm sure Pompeo wasn't blind-sided by this - that's the way these people negotiate.
They will tweak the agreement slightly, and if any of ours take hits from the Taliban in the mean-time, our response will be mind-numbing.
Trump doctrine is we don't let anything slide - all push-back all the time.

“The peace deal called for 1,000 government security forces held by the Taliban to be released in exchange for 5,000 Taliban fighters imprisoned by the government”
I don’t blame the Afghan President for rejecting such a lopsided exchange.

It may be to our advantage to leave WITHOUT an agreement.
If we don’t sign an agreement we can not be expected to return when they break their word (as we all know they will).
Start pulling troops back to a secure location and then begin returning them home.
