The prospects for the peace deal brokered between the United States and the Taliban looked grim less than 24 hours after it was announced, as Afghan President Ashraf Ghani balked at releasing 5,000 Taliban prisoners as specified in the agreement, and the Taliban responded by announcing it would resume “operations” against the Afghan government.
Ghani said on Sunday he has not agreed to release any Taliban prisoners. The peace deal called for 1,000 government security forces held by the Taliban to be released in exchange for 5,000 Taliban fighters imprisoned by the government.

They will tweak the agreement slightly, and if any of ours take hits from the Taliban in the mean-time, our response will be mind-numbing.

I don’t blame the Afghan President for rejecting such a lopsided exchange.

It may be to our advantage to leave WITHOUT an agreement.
If we don’t sign an agreement we can not be expected to return when they break their word (as we all know they will).
Start pulling troops back to a secure location and then begin returning them home.
Their Pres is smart enough to know only Obama would release 5000 thug killers against 1000 good guys. This President is not interested apparently in national and personal suicide.
Seems like prisoner exchange should have been agreed upon prior to the agreement.
