Bush 41 recommended it, Clinton made it permanent in 2000 with a larger-than-expected Republican majority.

THE CHINA TRADE VOTE: A CLINTON TRIUMPH; HOUSE, IN 237-197 VOTE, APPROVES NORMAL TRADE RIGHTS FOR CHINA

I was so livid with Newt Gingrich and other Republicans about it it's hard for me to forget. The Pubbies were quite gung-ho for it at the time.

[Bush 41 gave them permanent Most Favored Nation status 2 years after the Tienanmen Square massacre. That ensured they never had to live up to any standards yearly to do business here.]

That was Slick, not Bush. Oddly enough, Sanders attempted to repeal it in 2005.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_normal_trade_relations#U.S._and_China
[In the last year of his presidency, Bill Clinton called on Congress to help him change China’s normal trade relations status with the U.S. to permanent. This would amend the Trade Act of 1974 which had the trade status of China annually reviewed to determine the best course of action. The piece of legislation was introduced to the house as H.R. number 4444 on May 15, 2000 by William Reynolds Archer, a Republican Representative from Texas (he had three cosponsors). Introduce to the house the legislation referred to the Ways and Means committee in the House of Representatives to be amended and written up.[7] The legislation was introduced by saying that the bill was a top priority for the rest of the year and it was vital to the U.S. agriculture market to have access to a market that accounts for one-fifth of the world’s population.[8]]

I wonder how well Chinese planes can fly with parts missing.

Give the Red Chinese Navy and Air Force a laser show that will make our Fourth of July fireworks shows seem like Barney the Dinosaur.

Aim, not to please, but to destroy/down/mess-up their craft and pilots/sailors.

Time to get out of Obama’s cowardly “Queens Navy” mentality and give them a John Paul Jones/Bull Halsey lesson. It might sink into them not to screw around with us.

The Russians temporarily blinded some Coast Guard air crew members with a laser or lasers back several years back. It was during the Bush 1 or the Clinton Regimes. It burned and damaged their retinas. The Higher Ups on both sides downplayed it as boys having fun and nothing ever became of it. The incident was on the back pages of the back pages of the news.

I think the point is that a lot of dems AND repubs COMPROMISED our principles of freedom and free markets by allowing free trade with a Chinese tyranny.
-And we have been paying the price in the role of a slowly boiled frog ever since, which Trump is stopping, God bless him.

Unnaturally cheap products produced by slave labor to the benefit of a communist tyrant in the development of his wealth and technology and industrial capability, is an addiction we have to end.

Was it Lenin who said that the capitalists would “sell us (communists) the rope to hang them by”?

It could be existential.

It wasn’t Nixon. It was Carter. Clinton and Loral. Bush 41 & 43.

Um...okay.

I think you responded to the wrong post.

But anytime we can blame something on Carter or Clinton, I'm down with it.

The USN is rumored to have a unit named Frank Zappa.

It will boil lead at 2000 yards.
