BEIJING, March 2 (Reuters) - China's factories were dealt a devastating blow in February as the coronavirus epidemic triggered the sharpest contraction in activity on record, a private survey showed on Monday, with the health crisis paralysing large parts of the economy.
The Caixin/Markit Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) tumbled to 40.3 last month, the lowest level since the survey began in 2004, and down sharply from the 51.1 reading in January as well as the 50-mark that separates growth from contraction.

Video inside a Chinese factor was posted on twitter today showing machine running with no people around, because the Chicom gov’t is looking at electrical power consumption in real time to see who’s following orders to get back to work and who’s screwing off. Consequences will not be pleasant.
A realignment is in order. Intellectual property theft is the biggest problem, but there are plenty of others. Bring our best and brightest practices back home.
Good god what these rotten politicians and their trade deals have done to us.
Saw that, too. Bizarre!
That is interesting. Soldiers have probably already gone to the facility and executed those involved or imprisoned them
Futures have rebounded as Asian Markets open...but it means nothing. Tomorrow could go either way.
A college friend worked summers on a crew mowing the grass median along a major highway. They would leave the mowers running while they slept, with one guy assigned to refill the gas tanks. That way, if a supervisor came by they could claim it was just a 5 minute break.
Gee, Walmart is going to be in a world of hurt. Maybe they could bring back stuff made in America like...oh I don’t know...guns and ammunition?
I knew NAFTA/GATT/WTO would one day cripple us. So many of us tried to sway opinion but it was a useless effort.
We’re gonna be in a recession.
Trump better deal with it or else Sanders will be president.
Trump better stop joking and get serious with the economy.
We should be making all of our products in America..if this illness has taught us anything we gotta stop relying on China..China will recover from this no matter what because countries are always going to be sucking up to them to make our goods
.
Trump can’t force companies to manufacture here. I think his China tariffs, which he took a huge amount of cr@p for doing it, was really a short across the bow about trade relations with China. He shut down travel from China weeks before the impact of the flu became more serious, and he was called a racist for doing it. Not sure what else he can do.
Coincidences? China persecutes those wanting to please the GOD of the Bible. They start getting negatives. Sewing and reaping. They need to REPENT!
I think you would like that
I really doubt the majority of Americans want to go from Capitalism to Communism..and other than closing ALL international flights not more Trump can do, he can deal with a lot of things, but a virus is pretty much out of his hands, unless he cures it which he cant, he has to wait for someone to find a vaccine, a cure, anything that can help
I am just saying that 2020 is not in the bag.....
I’m surprised they did as well as 80% of nominal (40.1 over 50.0). Seems to me, based on their electricity production, that they’re closer to 25% of nominal. Perhaps China is, again, ‘managing’ the news.
“Trump better stop joking and get serious with the economy.”
what exactly would you have him do that he’s not already doing, you know, to “get serious with the economy”?
More winning.
Lets drive these brutal bastards back to before Nixon
