A Texas elementary school art teacher who was placed on administrative leave after showing her students a picture of her fiancée has reached a $100,000 settlement after a judge ruled that her suspension was unconstitutional.

"The agreements the district and I made in this settlement are a positive first step in making things better for gay employees, gay students and gay families in Mansfield," the teacher, Stacy Bailey, told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

...

As part of the settlement, the school district will provide mandatory training on LGBTQ issues to its educators and staffers, including human resources employees and counselors. It will also compel the district's board of trustees to vote on whether to add sexual orientation protections to its policies.

“The is NO guarantee for “homosexual rights” in this state. The case should have been appealed. “

The USSC says homos have the right to marry in all 50 states.

That makes it legal.

And according to the de facto law, she was due the judgement, and likely more.

I think Texas is blue within a few more election cycles by influx of illegals and the liberal refugees from California. We lose Texas, there goes the country as Presidential elections go.

Has any Republican office holder in Texas been paying attention to judicial appointments or what local school boards have been doing?

“To be honest, I’m not so sure a heterosexual teacher should be sharing photos with elementary school children of their spouse or fiancé either.”

I used to know a homosexual man who was a teacher. We talked about stuff like this and he thought it was completely inappropriate. But, I think was the exception rather than the rule

The only thing I remember about my school teachers’ spouses was when my third grade teacher’s husband was killed in an AF crash. Can’t remember how I learned about it.

Utter BS and irrelevant anyway. All a bare majority of the USSC pronounced is that homos couldn’t be denied a marriage license. No marriage license is or has been denied to this lesbian teacher. The court DID NOT say that people couldn’t resist this ridiculous notion. In fact, Kennedy, in his majority opinion in Obergefell, AFFIRMS that people and organizations have the right to oppose same-sex marriage as a concept. This applies to school districts as well as individuals:

... it must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned. The First Amendment ensures that religious organizations and persons are given proper protection as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths, and to their own deep aspirations to continue the family structure they have long revered. The same is true of those who oppose same-sex marriage for other reasons. [emphasis added]

The school district was well within its rights to restrict overt activism which didn’t comport with their local values.

My fifth grade teacher (circa ‘64-’65) told us about her Air Force officer fiance. He came to school to meet the class once. That was tough for us guys. Teacher was very hot and we had very mixed emotions meeting the guy who was going to claim her as his own. But being a handsome Zoomie officer in uniform was way cool.

With semi-broken 5th grade hearts we approved of her catch!

You can’t avoid this anymore. On Jeopardy tonight during the contestant introduction one of them mentioned his husband. No more Jeopardy.

#20. Going back a long time, to about 1953, my 2nd grade elementary teacher showed us pictures of her WEDDING, esp. her dress and the cake. Also had a photo of her and her husband feeding each other a piece of the wedding cake.

We thought it was great and she was beautiful enough to have been a Miss America. Never will forget Miss Silverman, and she was a very good teacher too.

Back in those days, you knew your teachers and often their families who lived in your neighborhood. They were part of the community and were always welcomed as teachers back then were well trained, patriotic citizens, and just good people.

Today, it’s a crap shoot and the crap is winning.

A{PS I was married to a teacher, often spoke at schools about science/paleontology-fossils, and attended a lot of PTA meetings with my parents at elementary, junior high, and high school - where parents were deeply involved in school affairs in a positive manner}.

Those were the “good old days” and I wish they would be brought back, for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

Religious schools can get away with this, public schools have to meet other guidelines.

No, but they can adopt, or get the “turkey baster treatment”, and indoctrinate the baby/child.

Yes, I know that. But, many said homosexuals don't have the money for that.
Also I doubt very much that homosexuals of either gender get their pick of babies/children up for adoption. Maybe they only can get those children that NO ONE else wants.

There are SO few homosexuals around that the number of those who might adopt has to EVEN lower.

Bottom line: there are a zillion things more important and relevant to be concerned about.
But I might be wrong.
