Support for bail reform nosedives in New York, new poll shows
New York Post ^ | February 24, 2020 | Carl Campanile

Support for New York’s controversial bail reform is collapsing amid media reports of defendants being released and committing more crimes, a survey said Monday.

A solid majority of state voters – 59 percent – now say that the elimination of cash bail for most misdemeanor and “non-violent” felony crimes is bad for New York, the Siena College poll found.

Only 33 percent of respondents said the law enacted Jan. 1 is good for New York.

The support nosedived further since a Siena survey last month – when 37 percent said bail reform is good and 49 percent said it was bad.

After the law was approved last April, 55 percent of New Yorkers said bail reform was good and 38 percent said it was bad.

Opposition to the law has increased across the board.

Democrats still favor the law by a narrow 49 percent to 44 percent. But the number of Democrats opposed jumped 10 points from January, when 34 percent said the law is bad.

The number of registered independents or unaffiliated voters who gave bail reform a thumbs down jumped from 56 percent in January to 66 percent in February.

Meanwhile, opposition from Republicans increased from 78 percent to 85 percent.

Resistance has grown among minorities, the strongest backers of bail reform.

Now 44 percent of Latino said bail reform is good and 48 percent said it’s bad. Last month, 49 percent said it’s good and only 30 percent said it’s bad – meaning opposition surged by 18 percentage points.

A majority of African American voters – 53 percent – support bail reform. But opposition increased from 27 percent in January to 40 percent in Monday’s survey.

Criminals released on bail, and then committing more crimes?? I’m sure the proponents of this law never thought about consequences, especially unintended consequences, of their utopian legislation.

Unlike a lot of liberal policies, this one has immediate and visible consequences!

This highlights a big difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives could foresee that the “bail reform” would have disastrous consequences, as it would throw criminals right back on the streets after arrest. Liberals fell for the typical bleeding heart stuff and had no idea of how such “reform” would turn out. Opinion is shifting because they are seeing the totally predictable consequences of reform, in the form of increased criminality.

“Democrats still favor the law by a narrow 49 percent to 44 percent.”

So damn near half of New York democrats are criminals. Who knew.

I don't agree with that at all.

They may have misjudged how quickly things went bad, but this was the result they were looking for from the beginning.

The historical record of the Left and their support for criminals over law abiding citizens bolsters my theory.

According to the official NYPD 2019 crime report,

78% of misdemeanors were committed by blacks (44.9%) and Hispanics (33.3% )
93.2% of murder arrests were blacks (62.4%) and Hispanics (30.8% )
87.2% of rape arrests were blacks (40.7%) and Hispanics (46.5%)
91.6% of burglary arrests were blacks (59.4%) and Hispanics (32.2%)
84.9% of felonious assault arrests were blacks (51.8%) and Hispanics(33.1%)
80.2% of grand larceny arrests were blacks (51.7%) and Hispanics (28.5%)
95.7% of shooting arrests were blacks (71.6%) and Hispanics (24.1%)

Is it any wonder that these two groups are in FAVOR of no bail, no jail?

“ Criminals released on bail”

Wrong, the criminals are being released automatically without bail.

This is how New Yorkers LEARN.

They usually have to run through the fire and burn their own A$$ before they wake up to their own stupidity.

The GOP needs to make a commercial portraying that bank robber. The one who robbed three or four banks using only notes before being arrested.

Under the new law he was charged and then released without having to pay cash bail. He then proceeded to rob two more banks before being caught again.

He was quoted saying, “I can’t believe they let me out. What were they thinking?”

Here you have a pretty dumb person (he robs banks, after all) who apparently has a better handle on law enforcement than most of the Democrats in New York. “What were they thinking?” indeed.

He then proceeded to rob two more banks before being caught again.
= = = = = = = = = = = = = =

He is a bank robber.
Bank robbers rob banks.

What else would he do but rob more banks so as he will have enough money to pay for a lawyer who will defend him and convince the jury he didn’t rob the banks even though the money to pay the lawyer was from robbing banks.

MAYBE the banks just shouldn’t carry money.

Just make EVERYTHING direct deposit and put ATMs on every street corner so the BANK ROBBERS can now start robbing the people one on one.

Seeing as how I ‘understand’ this and have figured it out, does that make me an ‘honorary liberal’?

Liberal & Conservative strolling down the beach when they see a guy about 75 yards out flailing and failing.

They both run off to get some rope and the Liberal throws him 100 yds of rope while the conservative throws him 50 yards and yells “Swim to the rope, I will pull you in” while the Liberal sees he has plenty of rope and runs off to do another good deed.

The swimmer drowned.....
