There is a growing undercurrent in markets that say a battle this fall between self-described socialist Senator Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump could be bad news for stock prices. As evidenced by the market’s strong run-up in 2020, investors have yet to exit stocks on fears of a big government Bernie winning the Oval Office. But his continued strong showing in debates and national polls may lead to some profit-taking sooner rather than later. The concern - Sanders shocks the market-friendly Trump.
“There is definitely kind of fear [among clients] if you get a candidate like Sanders or say Elizabeth Warren,” said UBS global investment strategist Jason Draho on Yahoo Finance’s The First Trade. For now, the Sanders surge is keeping a lid on the market potential argues Draho. “It’s more of a headwind that keeps markets from rising higher,” Draho noted.
Sanders is viewed by most rainmakers on Wall Street as anti-big business, anti-stock market and anti-wealth creation. In other words, bad for risk-taking in numerous asset classes, save for perhaps gold and bitcoin.

For anyone educated in the public school system after about 1980 he’s just right.
Don’t underestimate the appeal of ‘free everything’.
Even highly educated people with ‘stuff’ will be voting for him. (because he won’t be taking THEIR stuff, just rich people’s stuff)
I’ve been on FR a long time.
15+ years ago freepers (who are still around, some of them) would get into hostile arguments with homeschoolers. ‘Your kids will be weird little antisocial outcasts!, OUR schools don’t teach that secular humanism socialism crap. OUR kids teachers teach Sunday school and voted for Reagan. THAT sort of ‘education’ only happens in California’. Fast forward 10 or 15 years...and we discover their kids are all raging lefties and the parents hope they’ll ‘grow out of it’.
The long march through the institutions is here. Bernie is the flagbearer for 2 whole generations raised by lefty school teachers who were educated by commie pinkos in college.

Imho _all_ of the Democratic candidates are crazy and dangerous.

They hate us, they want to take our stuff, they want to regulate us to death, they want to open the borders and create economic incentives for illegal aliens to invade.

Wall Street won’t care which loser the Democrats pick as the party’s designated loser.
With this economy, President Trump will easily beat whichever Democrat they nominate, and that’s already “baked into the cake”.
If anything, the nomination of Bernie Sanders will boost stock prices, because his radically socialist campaign rhetoric will all but assure President Trump’s re-election.
If that happens, the Bernie Bros have already promised to Bern the Milwaukee Convention down.
They should have done it ‘16 but Bernie sold them out for that beach house he got.
remember he settled for a 600K beach home the last time around, the Bernie Bras seemed to have forgotten about that.
Gloomy probably could offer him a 1.5 million home on the Jersey Shore and the old commie probably would accept it
