Its not a good sign when different departments at a school start suggesting cutting each other.

It would make a lot more sense to just close the school.
Too many indoctrination centers, disguised as universities, already.
They think they’ll get raises. LOLOLOL
Close all of the degree programs that have less than a 50% job placement rate in the first year after graduation.
EWU shouldn’t be in Div I. Ya got Wash State (and Gonzaga, tee-hee) for that nonsense.
Sounds like they are trying to avoid the tranny athlete controversy.
“and become widely known for our commitment to academic excellence “
Do they have any [your favorite PC “discipline” here] Studies programs? Then LOL on the “excellence”.
Hell, every school board in the country has probably pulled this stunt. When money is tight, just threaten to cut athletics and band. The parents revolt, taxes increases are approved, life goes on.
Perhaps the academes don’t like EWU’s red football field.
I would reconsider the "value" of any of those curricula. The school does offer STEM courses; most of those produce skills you can get paid for.
Even English Lit with specialization in Shakespeare?
Dost thou wantest fried potatoes with that, m'lord?
Yeah boy. Those Eastern Washington “ academic “ courses are truly vital.
Close the worthless “ school “ doors !
EWU does offer STEM courses.
They need to shut down the office of Diversity.
Why do you say the school is worthless? Did you graduate from EWU? At one time, it had a very good reputation as a regional school, at least prior to the mid-1970s when I graduated. At that time, it was also very conservative.
Maybe it started going downhill when the BOT changed the Mascot from “Savages” to “Eagles”. The group that most opposed the change were native Americans/Indians.
Give all school waivers from Title IX.
It would make a lot more sense to just close the school.

It is one of the three ‘teaching colleges’ in WA.
Indoctrination, yes.
On the other hand, perhaps the sports teams don't like dont like EWUs red academes. See budj's post....
Some athletics ought not to e paid for by universities. On the other hand, they ought to close up the various ethnic studies which are useless degrees. Plus too many students study psychology, art history, etc.
Art History is an interesting topic. There are not very many good jobs available for these students. The university system should close some programs and have only one very good program of art history study within one state.
I know there are other subjects that ought to also e evaluated and either eliminated or some of the campuses close their programs.
Athletics/s[ports
What??? And devote a teaching institution to teaching instead of playing with a ball?
Don’t be absurd.
Sports in universities can be streamlined. There is no logic in insisting that women get the same number of dollars as the men, since there are many more men involved in sports activities. Also the major men’s sports bring in dollars from the fans. I know I will be chastised by some women regarding the financial division of funds, but it is only realistic.
As for the women, they should have basketball, volleyball, track & field, and maybe gymnastics.
Some sports, whether male or female do not have enough participants to justify the expense - so maybe one or two universities in state can specialize in sports like wrestling, boxing, skiing, etc.
Hockey is a good example. In northern states, men’s hockey is very popular and there are lots of good athletes to fill the rosters. But in women’s hockey, not so many athletes, so it is not reasonable to expect smaller universities to fund a women’s hockey team.
Just my humble opinion.
