Some athletics ought not to e paid for by universities. On the other hand, they ought to close up the various ethnic studies which are useless degrees. Plus too many students study psychology, art history, etc.
Art History is an interesting topic. There are not very many good jobs available for these students. The university system should close some programs and have only one very good program of art history study within one state.
I know there are other subjects that ought to also e evaluated and either eliminated or some of the campuses close their programs.

Sports in universities can be streamlined. There is no logic in insisting that women get the same number of dollars as the men, since there are many more men involved in sports activities. Also the major men’s sports bring in dollars from the fans. I know I will be chastised by some women regarding the financial division of funds, but it is only realistic.
As for the women, they should have basketball, volleyball, track & field, and maybe gymnastics.
Some sports, whether male or female do not have enough participants to justify the expense - so maybe one or two universities in state can specialize in sports like wrestling, boxing, skiing, etc.
Hockey is a good example. In northern states, men’s hockey is very popular and there are lots of good athletes to fill the rosters. But in women’s hockey, not so many athletes, so it is not reasonable to expect smaller universities to fund a women’s hockey team.
Just my humble opinion.
