Why do you say the school is worthless? Did you graduate from EWU? At one time, it had a very good reputation as a regional school, at least prior to the mid-1970s when I graduated. At that time, it was also very conservative.
Maybe it started going downhill when the BOT changed the Mascot from “Savages” to “Eagles”. The group that most opposed the change were native Americans/Indians.
Not singling out Eastern Washington.
The whole university paradigm must change. Student loan debt in the U.S. is now well over a trillion dollars. The “ universities “ share none of that burden.
They are only interested in enriching themselves on the backs of their students, while teaching mostly worthless, far-left, WOKE nonsense.
I grew up in that neck of the woods and there is nothing wrong with an EWU degree. It might not have a lot of national recognition but if you get a degree in a marketable discipline, the degree will land you a job. It will also get you into a graduate program at a more prestigious university if that is the student's plan.
EWU is a classic commuter school serving the Spokane area. (That term is used descriptively, not disparagingly.) With the availability of on-line classes and the branches campus movement from more prestigious universities, the commuter schools may become a thing of the past in the evolving economy.
It may well be that EWU cannot support both academics and athletics at a reasonable level. If so, athletics is the less valuable component in the university's mission.
