Daegu (AFP) -- South Korea confirmed 52 more cases of novel coronavirus on Friday as the number of infections linked to a religious sect in Daegu spiked, making it the worst-infected country outside China.

This is the 1st I’ve heard that most of the cases are related to one particular group of people.
“Shincheonji is often accused of being a cult and claims its founder, Lee Man-hee, has donned the mantle of Jesus Christ and will take 144,000 people with him to heaven on the day of judgement.”
Does this guy have the virus?
There are over 51 million people in South Korea and they are mainly having transmission problems with a religious cult, so no, the situation is not rapidly deteriorating.
“This is the 1st Ive heard that most of the cases are related to one particular group of people.”
Also news broke today about a cluster of cases in a Chinese prison. 213 prisoners including 7 officers:
Yeah, well good luck to those people
Yes. Prisons. Let us consider the prisons.

More than 80 members of Shincheonji have now been infected, starting with a 61-year-old woman who developed a fever on February 10 but attended at least four church services before being diagnosed.
Daegu's municipal government said 1,001 Shincheonji members believed to have attended services with the infected woman have been asked to self-quarantine.
.
I tried to research this cult, Shincheonji, a little(!) bit:
Unknown regarding their leader & the virus.
The cult has over 120,000 members. Something tells me they are NOT mostly out in the villages in the hills. (This outbreak is in SK’s 3rd largest metro area.)
Once converted, members are said to spend less time with friends and family, neglect work, etc., but OTOH they proselytize a LOT. How much intra-cult socialization they do I could not find good info. on, but they do apparently hold a “Shincheonji National Olympiad” in Olympic Stadium, South Korea - how often, I don’t know.
To what extent the group might or might not cooperate with medical personnel, report illnesses, contacts, etc., I haven’t a clue. Hopefully they do not have a sense of being persecuted by the gov’t, and / or get persecuted by “non-believers” - that could make things very bad.
Is this trouble? I honestly don’t know. Not enough info. I’d guess there is a small chance this could blow up.
Ah, don’t ruin it for people that like to panic or for some reason can’t wait for End of Days :)
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Him and 143,999 Others?
Source pls?
“...making it the worst-infected country outside China.”
I winder if we have any actual data from N. Korea.
Might be a good opportunity for President Trump to call Kim and ask him honestly what is going on there with the virus.
Then tell him we got some good people working on it, and to send a delegation over here to discuss it.
We want to help you and your people out.
...Could go a long was with negotiations and trust.
makes you wonder ...
