No, Bernie Sanders, most voters aren't comfortable with socialism

This is the moment for the ultimate question of the Bernie Sanders movement: is the United States ready for a socialist President?

At Wednesday's Democratic presidential debate, Sanders defended himself as a socialist (he calls himself a democratic socialist) and then dismissed a recent poll that suggested Americans do not have a favorable view of socialism. Who was leading in that poll, he asked the debate moderator? He was, although the moderator didn't know it. The moment allowed Sanders to skate with the impression that it doesn't matter that Americans oppose socialism because clearly they like him.

Polling does suggest discomfort with a socialist President

It is true the Sanders was leading in the poll, conducted by the Wall Street Journal and NBC -- but only among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents when asked who they supported for the Democratic nomination. He had 27% support compared to Mike Bloomberg, Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, each with 14% support. And in a hypothetical matchup, he was narrowly ahead of President Donald Trump.

But two-thirds of all voters -- Democrats plus everyone else -- said they would be uncomfortable with a socialist President. Come November, it will be all Americans over the age of 18 who elect the Electoral College that picks the President. Those results and the questions they raise about whether the country would accept a socialist are repeated in an NPR / PBS News Hour Marist poll. In that poll, Sanders had even more support -- 31% in the Democratic primary compared to Michael Bloomberg, in second place with 19%. Take a look at the party breakdown regarding socialism. Fifty percent of Democrats have a favorable view of socialism compared to 46% who have a favorable view of capitalism.

I don't think he cares. He means to force it down our throats, first by deception and then by force.

He's a nasty old communist, right out of Atlas Shrugged. Ayn Rand had his type down cold.

That is because socialism is for losers.

The real Left is all about the Narrative. How American feel about socialism doesn’t matter to people like Bernie at all. He says we like socialism. Therefore, we like socialism. That’s his story, and he’s sticking to it. Because Truth is an outdated concept. There is only the Narrative. And the Narrative is that we all want to live under a communist dictatorship.

Bernie chastised Trump for “not knowing what socialism is.” One has to wonder if Bernie knows what it is. He says he doesn’t think of countries like Cuba, Venezuela, or China, but instead Denmark and the Scandanavian countries. THose countries are NOT ssocialist countries, however. They have more collectivist policies than we do, but no where near 50%+ of their production is done by government planners.

Socialism is an evil ideology.

Placing all of the power with the state makes individuals defenseless. Are you ready to support the idea that your existence is worthless? If so, vote for ANY of the Rats against Trump.

The Founding Fathers had it exactly right when they limited the power of government.

You are absolutely correct. Libs the I know in Real Life think exactly that way! They don’t KNOW what real socialism/communism is.

After they’re done proving to me how SMART they are, I’ll ask, ‘So, why does everyone want to sneak into America if life is so grand in Denmark, Norway or Sweden?”

Blank stares...

Fidiots!

The only reason Bernie thinks he’s comfy with it is because as an Aparatchic he figures he’d have HIS mouth firmly attached to a gubmint teat, so he’d be OK. And, to blazes with the ones lower down in the pecking order.

Bernie the socialist should be given the job of dividing Bloomberg’s 2 B for the Democrats, if the Democrats fail they can then blame Bernie and not scream about it being stolen.

Bern is a walking coronary. He will be lucky to make it to November without a stroke or heart attack.

I re-watched most of the debate with the sound off just watching body language. Bernie looks like a raving lunatic. One beat away from a heart attack.
