It's hard to believe, but May 4, 2020, is the 50th anniversary of the tragic shooting at Kent State University, where Ohio National Guard troops fired on a crowd of students during a massive anti-Vietnam War protest, killing four students and injuring nine.
Witnesses, military and law-enforcement experts, historians, and activists are divided on whether the shooting was justified (that's a discussion for another day), but it appears that Kent State is going all-in on pouring salt in the wounds of America's Vietnam veterans.
In a move that surprised many in the Northeast Ohio area and beyond, Kent State President Todd Diacon announced that actress, activist, and (former?) communist sympathizer Jane Fonda will be one of the speakers at an anniversary commemoration of the shooting on May 3and she'll be paid a whopping $83,000 to ostensibly reminisce about her anti-war activism.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, a Republican and veteran, is not having it.
"The 50th anniversary of one of Ohios darkest days has the potential to serve as a moment of unity, understanding & healing in a nation that is deeply divided," LaRose wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday. "However, Kent States decision to pay Jane Fonda $83,000 to speak at their commemoration event does the very opposite."
LaRose, who served in the 101st Airborn Division and later as a Green Beret, earning a Bronze Star for his service in Iraq, observed that American service members returning from Vietnam "deserved a much better reception than the one they received. They werent the politicians who chose which battle to fight -- they were the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines sent into the battle. And we should say one thing to them: Welcome Home."

Maybe they can ship in that anti-aircraft gun from Vietnam so she can recreate her treasonous behavior.
I note no alleged concern for and high cost of security complaints for Hanoi’s arrival.
NOT FONDA JANE
Whoever made the decision to bring her to campus needs to be fired—if a committee fire all of them.
Then slash the state funding for the university—that is a message they will understand.
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We’re finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Can you imagine if she'd done this for Germany or Japan in WWII?
She would have been tried and convicted and died in prison.
The University hasn’t changed.
Show us your tits! Aww never mind you old bag.
It is a disgrace. Paying this multimillionaire even a nickel would be too much. If she really wants to speak, she can do it on her own dime.

Nahhh-Just make sure the students know THEY’RE picking up the tab! (Expenses like this are passed along to them in the way of increased tuition)
Maybe that will give them the cold shower they need and introduce them to the reality of the situation - out here in the grown up world).
She’s pointing to what is missing between her ears.
Shamefully, our government didn't try her for her crimes at the time - it was too busy trying to oust Nixon to bother.
So that’s how she supports herself, in the country that she hates so much.
