That would make the election a pure choice between socialism and capitalism. McGovern ran against Nixon in 1972 and I agree he was far superior to today’s miserable RATS.

Humphrey prevailed in the 1968 Chicago maelstrom as LBJ’s Veep when Johnson declined to run for reelection.

I admired Humphrey as well but he never stood a chance in the climate back then. BTW, I was only 8 in 1968 and JFK was my first childhood hero, despite his death when I was just three.

Finally, living in Maryland, I registered in high school as a democrat back in 1978 and was a dem for 38 years until Trump motivated me to become a Republican to support him in my state’s primary in 2016.
