In a major defeat for Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and fellow Democrats in the commonwealth, the Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee voted to not move forward with HB961, the "assault weapons" ban and magazine confiscation bill, on Monday for the rest of the year.
In a 10-5 vote, with four Democrats joining the Republicans, Committee voted to for a crime commission to study the bill to see if it is worth pursing next year. The bill would have banned AR-15s and other similar styles of rifles and banned being able to own magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.
When the bill failed to pass, cheers erupted and some, including law enforcement officers, stood up in celebration. Virginia Delegate Mark Levine, who helped passed the bill in the House, and his collegues in the front row were seen to be very disappointed.

I never owned a black rifle, nor had any desire to until my state legislature started talking about a ban. Now I have several. And I will keep them regardless of what the legislature does. Do ya think they understand the consequences of what they’re doing?

That bill is now earmarked for passage on some late Friday night when there’s nobody around.
I can just imagine the liberal response if Repubs used that symbol on Dems. Something akin to Palin’s “target”...

Virginia’s officials have a brief episode of momentary sanity...
They’ll make up for it.
