Canada: A Totalitarian State-in-Progress
American Thinker.com ^ | February 17, 2020 | David Solway

Posted on 02/17/2020 6:01:42 AM PST by Kaslin

To describe Canada as a totalitarian state-in-progress sounds like a gross and indeed absurd exaggeration. Yet many premonitory signs are present. In the words of political philosopher William Gairdner, author of The Book of Absolutes, The Great Divide and The Trouble with Canada, Canada “has just crossed the red line between soft-socialism and soft-totalitarianism.”

Gairdner has assembled a virtual mountain of evidence for his claim: Bill C-25 seeking to impose “diversity” on all corporations; financial penalties against organizations that do not comply with government programs; a teeming brigade of government surveillance “Inspectors,” that is, spies -- wage spies, speech spies, feminist spies, pay-equity spies, Human Rights spies; paralegal bodies known as Human Rights Tribunals with the power to levy crippling fines, bankrupt families and shut down businesses, to impose prison time for contempt of court, and to compel conformity via “re-education.”

The list goes on. Bill C-16 prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity and gender expression, which sounds unexceptionable except for the obvious fact that “discrimination” is in the eye of the offended beholder and the government enforcer. The bill effectively mandates that citizens must address others by their preferred pronouns and transgender fantasies -- or else! It’s “zir,” “ze,” “zem” or “zeir” or you’re done for. It’s Emily, not Brian, or your job’s in peril. The Ontario Human Rights Code stipulates that “refusing to refer to a trans person by their chosen name and a personal pronoun that matches their gender identity… will likely be discrimination” in social areas like employment, housing, education and so on.

Meanwhile, not waiting for H1B visas, companies are opening offices in Canada, Calgary, populated by Indian engineers.

Calgary is easier and cheaper than San Francisco or Houston

What makes you think life under a Bernie Sanders regime would be any different?

At best, at best a socialist is just the larval form of a fascist. At worst, a socialist is a fascist wolf in socialist sheep's clothing, saying all the nice-sounding things until he/she can acquire the power to impose their will upon you.

Ask a leftist/socialist the right way and if they're being candid, they'll eventually admit they believe they are the smartest person/people in the room. They have deluded themselves into believing their ideas and ideals are the ideas and ideals. That anyone who opposes the obvious utopian perfection of their ideas must simply be too stupid to see it. Hence, because they recognize it, they must be smarter than everyone else.

This inevitably leads to thinking along the lines that gosh, they're so smart, and everyone else is so stupid or simply hasn't seen the light yet, why they should "help" them, help save them from their own short-sighted ways.

This is the socialist, trying to help society. Sadly, they actually believe they are in the right. What comes next though, is very very wrong. They start to believe they must save us from ourselves. They start to see their mission as something bigger than themselves. It's for posterity, it's for the children, only 11.xxx years left... Down that path lies the ability to justify all kinds of near-term horrors for the long-term good. The ends justifies the means. When you believe the ends are so great, so important, you can justify almost any present-day horror as a regrettable sacrifice for the greater good. Thus completing your transformation into a fascist. Even worse, a fascist with a clear conscious and no regrets. This is yet another reason why socialism sucks, it is a breeding ground for fascism. This is how you get the National Socialist Workers Party and their ilk. Germany ran into a little problem with their kind last century...

Canada “has just crossed the red line between soft-socialism and soft-totalitarianism.”

This is the historical progression of socialism. The “soft totalitarian” stage will progress to the hard totalitarian communist stage when it becomes apparent to the powers that be they are having trouble controlling the serfs. SSDD.

This will infect every society in the world when run by liberals.

Putin may be the only one to limit this kind of thing, but for how long?

The push of thought crime (or hatred of free thought) is relentless.

Exactly right

Yes, there are those who actually believe in the ideal of socialism, and then there are the sociopaths who regard people as objects to be manipulated, controlled, or removed. The latter see the opportunity when socialism becomes a mass delusion deep enough to approach power. It’s these latter types who prevail. Stalin weeded out those committed to ideals, in favor of those committed to him.
It happens every time, because socialism logically entails such control. Normal people who try to practice it will always correct their error before things get bloody.

In some ways Canada is ideally suited for a totalitarian government simply because its population is so passive.

People who aren’t familiar with Canada may not realize that the place is basically ungovernable. It’s federal government is so ineffective that it can’t maintain order at all. The RCMP has fewer than 20,000 sworn officers, and they are responsible for law enforcement in a country that covers a land area larger than the U.S.

It's not just happening in Canada. I think the writers of the Constitution would be disappointed that Article V has never been used. Even a looming bloody Civil War was not enough to move the country into using it in time. Now that nuclear, biological and chemical weapons are a horrible reality It is not a mistake America can afford to make a second time.

I suspect most rational legal minds are deathly afraid of an Article V process because they know damn well that the end result would be a bureaucratic, socialist monstrosity like the EU constitution.

Pretty boy justin is bringing bearded savages into once-peaceful Canada. To force the normal people to accept that action, he must jail them for speaking out about it and thus we have a totalitarian state in the making.

... know damn well that the end result would be a bureaucratic, socialist monstrosity like the EU constitution.

America already has a vast bureaucratic state. Also black robed tyrants who rewrite the Constitution routinely. Part of the reason of President's Trump success is his lessening of this vast monstrous reach.

The Convention of States application is written with a opt out clause which nulls the application if any of the articles purposed go outside the bounds of which the Convention was called. If application for Article V simply needed 2/3's regardless of any particular reason a state called for it, we would have had dozens of Conventions by now. The fear of calling one is the irrational fear.

Are Canada's Indian engineers the same diploma-mill conmen that corporate globalists have flooded the U.S. with? Or does Canada have a real immigration policy really requiring real skills?
