A top official at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) said Sunday that the coronavirus outbreak is on the verge of becoming a global pandemic unless containment of the deadly disease becomes more successful.
Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CBSs Face The Nation that multiple person-to-person transmissions need to occur in multiple countries in order to reach the pandemic threshold.
Fauci said that as of Sunday, 24 countries have more than 500 cases, with several of them reaching the second and third transmission of the virus.
Technically speaking, the [World Health Organization] wouldnt be calling this a global pandemic. But it certainly is on the verge of that happening reasonably soon unless containment is more successful than it is right now, he said.

“It would be tough on the economy world wide.”
It also might cause as many deaths as it stops.
Now is the time.
Ultraviolet scanning at Post Offices, Amazon, and container ships coming in from China? Where else?

Stop all international flights to/from China, and other third world countries. Use videoconferencing instead.

I take about 10,000 mg of C daily...for some that would mean diarrhea. ..you have to increase amount until it causes problem...then backoff...
10 grams of C/day??
Wow.
And, I thought hubby took a lot ;-)
Tolerance level (bowel tolerance, that is) is different for everyone.
One could start out taking 1 gram ea am and pm, and steadily increase (Vit C is available in 1,000 gram capsules), each dosage, until....well...one’s bowels say that’s enough!
The bats out of the bag on this one.
For colds and flu, a naturopath once told me to take powdered Vitamin C (Buffered Calcium or Magnesium Ascorbates) - 1 teaspoon in a little tepid water, just enough to dissolve. Take it every half hour until diarrhea starts.
I tried it twice when I felt I was coming down or already had symptoms. It seemed to help.
I am still more concerned about the locusts in Africa than this disease. Not that cocid19 is not a problem but the locust could cause millions of deaths by next month an the situation is almost ignored in the news. This is the worst locusts have been in maybe 100 years

“At this point, the focus should include effective treatment strategies. Theres no way this is going to be contained.”
The focus should be on both containment AND treatment. Those are separate problems that should be dealt with simultaneously.
Test run on bio-weapon?
It’s not the flu. It is more contagious, has higher lethality and has stealth capabilities. In addition, this thing puts a higher percentage of its victims in the ICU.
It seems that a new cadre of “but, flu” newbies show up on every thread. Go do some reading. But here’s a spoiler: even if there are zero new cases worldwide, the death toll from the 60,000+ currently infected will overtake this year’s US flu deaths in about a month in Wuhan alone. This thing puts a much higher percentage of its victims in the ICU and once the medical infrastructure is saturated, that percentage will most likely die. Anywhere we lose containment will have this happen.
IIRC he said that Vitamin C is non-toxic, but that once you get up to 18-20 grams/day, it can cause diarrhea.
“Now, heres something slightly encouraging that I read:”
It cuts both ways. Anybody not getting tested that dies, died of something else.
Viral pneumonia can be very, very bad, and this particular coronavirus is quite adept at infecting the lungs.
