A top official at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) said Sunday that the coronavirus outbreak is on the verge of becoming a global pandemic unless containment of the deadly disease becomes more successful.
Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CBSs Face The Nation that multiple person-to-person transmissions need to occur in multiple countries in order to reach the pandemic threshold.
Fauci said that as of Sunday, 24 countries have more than 500 cases, with several of them reaching the second and third transmission of the virus.
Technically speaking, the [World Health Organization] wouldnt be calling this a global pandemic. But it certainly is on the verge of that happening reasonably soon unless containment is more successful than it is right now, he said.

The virus doesn’t kill everyone—only SOME children and SOME old people. Maybe the Chinese think that is an acceptable cost.
Too late.
Boomers beware.
Define ‘old’.
Fighting the flu virus!
Comment: Dr. Andrew W. Saul, an international expert on vitamin therapy, says: The coronavirus can be dramatically slowed or stopped completely with the immediate widespread use of high doses of vitamin C. Bowel tolerance levels of C taken in divided doses throughout the day, is a clinically proven antiviral, without equal.
Fighting the flu virus, this may include the new corona virus as well. A while back when the H-1 N-1 virus was active (2009) some one from the medical profession suggested the use of a good dose of NAC or N-Acetyl Cystein along with a healthy dose of buffered ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and it appeared to work like a charm.
Just run across the following article by Dr. Andrew W. Saul what seems to confirm the effectiveness of vitamin C. Not to mention that NAC is a precursor to a very potent anti-oxidant glutathione, which is also used as an antidote against acetaminophen, as well as many other poisonous substances.
You better double-check your sources. Several of the recent dead in Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan are 30-40 years old.

What does that mean? It would be more helpful if a dosage number were given.
Feed the Panic Machine some “Hi-perbole” fuel.
Pinging all Coronavirus Experts!
Why exactly?
Source? Any non Asians? Is it the same scientists who said the hymalayas would melt by 2020?
Honestly, you people are such babies, it's no worse than a cold!Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Millions will get very sick around the world. It leaves many with heart damage or lung damage
Medically I’m a know nothing but so far I juse don’t see it bing any big deal. If, say, the Corona virus surpassed the flu in deaths anytime soon, maybe.
Do a 9/11 style airplane stoppage worldwide. Anyone crossing a border should be quarantined for at least 4 weeks. Ships should spend at least a month at sea before being allowed into a port.
It would be tough on the economy world wide.
At this point, the focus should include effective treatment strategies. There’s no way this is going to be contained.
“The virus doesnt kill everyoneonly SOME children and SOME old people. Maybe the Chinese think that is an acceptable cost.”
Read somewhere today that very few children are getting it.
One problem right now is China is so huge and disorganized that even if China wants to keep decent records they really can’t. I haven’t seen suggestions from NIH or WHO regarding what more China can do.
Now, here’s something slightly encouraging that I read:
Underestimating the cases means the death rate is probably LOWER than current figures show. Many cases going unnoticed as people often recover easily and/or have little or no symptoms. Dying tends to get noticed, light cases tend to not get noticed.
The Wuhan Flu attacks the lungs like a pneumonia. That kind of thing is particularly hard on old people.
I am definitely not a doctor or anything even close to one, but think this article is probably the best information on what the Wuhan Flu is and what to expect from it.
“Coronavirus is very contagious but well get past this epidemic, top pharma CEO says”
Published Fri, Feb 14 2020
“The new strain of coronavirus that has created a deadly epidemic in China is a lot more contagious than the flu, a top pharma CEO told CNBC.
’What we have all learned is that the virus leads to a lower mortality than the flu virus, but its a lot more contagious, the virus is very contagious,’ he said. ‘I will not say its totally controlled yet, but Im hoping that over the next few months that we will see it get under control.’
Key phrases “lower mortality” but “very contagious”
It has been said that people of all ages who have pre-existing breathing/lung or autoimmune type issues are higher risk. That may explain some of those younger deaths.
Is it a “global pandemic” when one one or two people on a continent are infected? and the other 90-something percent are gathered in one place...China?
