Nancy Pelosi defends decision to rip Trump's State of the Union address

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended her decision to rip up President Donald Trump's State of the Union address earlier this month, a dramatic move that was criticized by Republicans as being disrespectful and a "breach of decorum."

"One of my disappointments is the fact that with all that we have done legislatively, whether its equal pay for equal work, raising the minimum wage, gun violence protection, issues that relate to our children, the list goes on. I thought, well, let's get attention on the fact that what he said here today was not true," Pelosi told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in an interview from the Munich Security conference Saturday. The full interview will air on CNN International at 1 p.m. ET on Monday.

Pelosi reiterated that she had no intention of tearing up her copy of Trump's annual address to Congress, but that as she read along, she "realized that almost every page had something in it that was objectionable."

The tension on display at this year's State of the Union came a day before the GOP-led Senate was expected to and eventually voted to acquit Trump of two articles of impeachment.

"You can't have an acquittal unless you have a trial and you can't have a trial without witnesses and documents. So he can say he was acquitted, and the headlines can say acquitted but he's impeached forever," Pelosi told Amanpour on Saturday.

The dignity and decorum of the Speaker of the House office has been diminished by her action.

It seems obvious now that she invited Trump to deliver the State of the Union speech o the Floor of the House for the specific purpose of her act of petty spite.

§2071. Concealment, removal, or mutilation generally
(a) Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so, or, with intent to do so takes and carries away any record, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

The writer linked below says that when she tore up the SOTU transcript, Nancy signaled her commitment to the "Algerian Strategy" in which the DEMS continue to "tear it  up" (e.g., drop barriers to criminals and illegals in order to flood the country with disruption). The same tactic was behind the overthrow of Algeria. The Dems are currently advancing this strategy with H.R. 5383, The New Way Forward Act.
