Federal prosecutors have declined to charge former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, closing an investigation into whether he lied to federal officials about his involvement in a news media disclosure, McCabe’s legal team said Friday.
The decision resolves a criminal investigation that spanned more than a year and began with a referral from the Justice Department’s inspector general, which said McCabe repeatedly lied about having authorized a subordinate to share information with a newspaper reporter for a 2016 article about an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
McCabe’s lawyers said in a statement they were told in a phone call and letter that the case is closed and “no charges will be brought against him based on the facts.”
McCabe, a frequent target of attacks from President Donald Trump, has denied that he intentionally misled anyone. He has said his 2018 firing — for what the Justice Department called “lack of candor” — was politically motivated. He sued the Justice Department in August, saying officials had used the inspector general’s conclusions as a pretext to rid the FBI of leaders Trump perceived as biased against him.
In a letter on Friday, prosecutors told McCabe’s lawyers that they decided “not to pursue criminal charges against your client” after careful consideration.
“Based on the totality of the circumstances and all of the information known to the government at this time, we consider the matter closed,” said the letter, signed by the chief of the U.S. attorney’s office’s public corruption unit.
The decision was revealed at the week of startling tensions between Trump and the Justice Department over the treatment of one of the Republican president’s longtime allies and confidants, Roger Stone.

Difficult as it may be, I have to entertain this possibility.
I'm listening, too. Lord, I hope he is onto something. He's had just enough time to cool off a little, and I'm trying to, too. He must have been as hot as I was when he first got the news. I wonder what other letters went out today. If McCabe faces co-conspiracy charges, that would be a whole different matter besides this singular measly lie told just by him about the Hillary business.

After Watergate, the DOJ was allowed to become the 4th Branch of Government.
The D.C. Swamp thought Nixon had acted with too much "authority" over the DOJ and the Special Prosecutor, and thought any President shouldn't have power over them.
Of course, when Obama and Holder were a tag team of Treason and Crime, that was all fine and dandy.
Trump has been especially hands-off to DOJ, and has said so on camera on numerous occasions.
He did that for obvious reasons: the media, the GOPe, and the Democrats would crucify for him for trying to "tamper" with justice.
Well, we all see now how that approach worked out.
BTW - the Washington Post is reporting the President was blindsided by Barr's and the DOJ's slimy actions today, and is reportedly livid.

There’s bigger charges coming. They only dropped the charges from the Horowitz report but the Duhram report is the criminal investigation and that one will hopefully take them all down. If not, then there is no justice an Barr is a phony. It’s supposed to be released early spring.
I think he should fire Barr.

I thought Barr was going to accomplish SOMETHING, even firing the partisan rats would be a good start. Maybe that Rob O’Brien guy should come over to the DOJ and do the dirty deeds that need to be done once he is done revamping the NSC.
