Federal prosecutors have declined to charge former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, closing an investigation into whether he lied to federal officials about his involvement in a news media disclosure, McCabes legal team said Friday.
The decision resolves a criminal investigation that spanned more than a year and began with a referral from the Justice Departments inspector general, which said McCabe repeatedly lied about having authorized a subordinate to share information with a newspaper reporter for a 2016 article about an FBI investigation into the Clinton Foundation.
McCabes lawyers said in a statement they were told in a phone call and letter that the case is closed and no charges will be brought against him based on the facts.
McCabe, a frequent target of attacks from President Donald Trump, has denied that he intentionally misled anyone. He has said his 2018 firing for what the Justice Department called lack of candor was politically motivated. He sued the Justice Department in August, saying officials had used the inspector generals conclusions as a pretext to rid the FBI of leaders Trump perceived as biased against him.
In a letter on Friday, prosecutors told McCabes lawyers that they decided not to pursue criminal charges against your client after careful consideration.
Based on the totality of the circumstances and all of the information known to the government at this time, we consider the matter closed, said the letter, signed by the chief of the U.S. attorneys offices public corruption unit.
The decision was revealed at the week of startling tensions between Trump and the Justice Department over the treatment of one of the Republican presidents longtime allies and confidants, Roger Stone.

That’s what I’ve said all along: Trust god. All others pay cash.
I hope Trump tweets the hell out of this.
Good point, especially since Trump has been Tweeting seemingly every day.
Im praying deals have been made for a lower sentence. Maybe McCabe. Nunes said the truth will be coming out and he sounded confident. He was angry and frustrated. Now hes just angry. Im not giving up hope. I think this Barr Trump argument is just for optics. Maybe Trump and Barr are playing a chess game waiting for all the pieces to be in place.
I am still checking on why I should trust anything that comes from the District of Corruption.
They don’t drop charges on the small stuff when a plea deal is struck. You hit them with potential big stuff if they don’t flip, on the premise that they plead guilty to smaller stuff.
And it's also worth noting that the McCabe leak and lie wasn't really against Trump. It actually hurt Hillary and the Obama DOJ"
Thank you worth repeating
Or any other offense, but keep hoping maybe it will get better you never know, it might.
Spot on, unfortunately. Get ready for the spin: This is part of the plan! Just you wait! Justice is right around the corner!
Is there going to be a demonstration “No Justice, No Peace” from the conservatives now?
Can I cite Andrew McCabe if/when I lie to the FBI/DoJ?
Again, that is the reason to have the guy as AG
Access Hollywood was a media hit job
Trump and his team made a decision on a media hit job
That makes no sense
The dust settled quick and Christie would have taken the position
The reason Christie isn’t AG is because Kushner wouldn’t allow it, Family first in the Trump administration and sadly I think this was the biggest mistake Trump ever made was allowing sleepy sessions to be AG, when he could have had a tornado like Christie. And we all agree, the DOJ needs a Tornado
Christie and the Bushes weren’t the best of friends either, anyone remotely high up in the Republican party has ties to the Bushes, Jeez.
Tweet away Trump!
And fire his ass.
Is it at all conceivable that they flipped McCabe?
No. McCabe is on CNN today dunking on Barr like he is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
Agreed that Sessions was a shockingly bad pick. And we need to FReep him out of the Bama Senate primary, and help Spicer promote Tuberville.
Got to beat the r u n n o f t election hanging over this, and by the way Bama Freepers, please do away with your r u n n o f t election.
It's a bad way of doing electoral business: it's a short step from runnoft to the unconstitutional 'jungle' primary; runnoft also favors incumbents, and most incumbents grow a RINO horn over time and Sessions being the GOP 'incumbent' in this primary is proof-of-concept.
"In the hypothetical general election match-ups, Sessions beats Jones by 13 percentage points, while Tuberville and Byrne outpace Jones by 8 points and 9 points, respectively."
I have particular affinity for Tuberville in that he incidentally poisoned Petrino's reputation - Tommy had nothing to do with it other than a bad season - and now Petrino coaches the Missouri State Bears lofl... (apologies to any Missouri State Bear Freepers).
It’s not just people that had to be confirmed, even those that he had total control of like chiefs of staff and personal aides like Priebus, Kelly, Mooch and so on.
I like Trump a lot, just wish he would be more careful about the people he surrounds himself with.
I know people who are working, and I am working in my State. People cry “WHAT DO I DO”? Do something, even if it is wrong. DO SOMETHING...you are correct.
Trust the plan.
B to the Q
You’re correct, it’s our nation and the rule of law - and Barr just threw an interception to the opposing team, who returned it 99 yards for the winning touchdown with no time remaining.
The GOPe is giving the criminal Dems one mulligan after another because their target is Trump. Clearly, they feel there is no crime if the target is Trump. The GOPe hate POTUS every bit as much as Schumer and Pelosi.
