Space Force is looking for ideas 'in good taste' on what it should call its members

Following its official creation this past December, the Space Force is looking for ideas on what the members of the newest branch of the U.S. military should be called.

"The U.S. Space Force is looking for feedback from U.S. military space professionals on what Space Force members should be called – similar to how the Air Force refers to its members as ‘Airmen’ or the Army refers to its members as ‘Soldiers,’" the Space Force wrote in a statement on its website.

It continued: "Given the significance a name has to the identity and culture of an organization, the Space Force is taking a deliberate approach to ensure Space Force member titles and ranks appropriately convey the nature of the newest Armed Forces branch and the domain in which it operates.”

Earlier this month, Lt. Gen. David Thompson, vice commander of the Space Force, said they won't be referred to as "spacemen."

In addition to what it calls its members, the Space Force is also asking for ideas on ranks and names for operational units, the military branch added.

Why does a post industrial in debt banana republic need a space force? It’s all a joke.

Their logo is VERY Star Trek, so I’ve been saying the service academy needs to be in San Francisco.

Will those who attend the academy be space cadets?

Given what I read on leftist sites it sucks as a first language too. Learning Russian is fun except for the 6 possible word endings.

That would only be for the men though.

Who knows? Maybe this ramp-up of UFO sightings and the USN admitting that it tangled with UAPs that did things that our current (READ: publicly known) tech couldn't reproduce or explain is a slow roll out or precursor to rolling out some bleeding-edge stuff to show the Russians, Chinese, Norks, Iranians, and several other antgonists that we're packing the hardware to bring to an alley fight. And believe me, if we want a wing of space fighters, the money is there. They always have a rainy day fund hidden somewhere in the budget. It's more of a matter of engineering and beta-testing the hell out of it to ensure reliability than it is going hat-in-hand to an appropriations committee on Capitol Hill and rattling a tin cup. I was a lowly security supervisor at the Five-Sided Rathole for a few years, and they have their own ways of making things work.

Reminds me of a story that appeared in science fiction magazine many years ago. The title came from a song featured in the story. "The Rocketeers Have Shaggy Ears."
