Coronavirus: Hong Kong schools to remain closed for another month

The Education Bureau has announced that schools will not resume classes before March 16 owing to the coronavirus outbreak.
Secretary for Education Kevin Yeung said at a press conference on Thursday that the Bureau will take into account professional advice from health experts, the readiness of schools, as well as the supply of epidemic preventive materials in the community in making further assessments and deciding on the exact date of class resumptions.

There’s a reason Bannon is comparing this pandemic to Chernobyl. They are months away from having this under control and the real impact will be on the food production and distribution systems (truck drivers, garbage collection, etc) in China that societies depend on.
The political fallout for the CCP is yet to be determined once people understand what centralized planning has wrought.
Nothing is going in or out it seems. I was at the post office today, and there was an Asian woman who was mailing a package. The clerk asked her if her masks had made it to China last week. She said that the package never made it out of the US. She also said that something about Hong Kong, not China, but I didnt catch all of it.
I did keep a kind of wide berth tho...

China is diagnosing coronavirus patients by looking for ground glass in their lungs. Take a look at the CT scans.

Chinese authorities have started diagnosing coronavirus cases in the Hubei province via CT scans.
The scans arent as thorough as a blood tests, but doctors in Wuhan, where the virus originated, are reportedly running short on test kits.
To diagnose the virus, physicians look for white patches called ground glass, which signal fluid in the lungs.
Authorities in Chinas Hubei province reported a dramatic spike in coronavirus cases on Thursday: 14,840 new cases.
Lots of Chinese students desperately buying masks and other equipment in our area. Menards and the farm and fleet stores have a “limit of two” for such items now.
Unless you are local and they know you.
Prayers for these folks:
Doctors at China’s coronavirus epicentre Wuhan overworked and unprotected
BEIJING (AFP) - Tired and understaffed, medical workers have had to deal with thousands of new cases per week in Wuhan, the city at the epicentre of the outbreak that first emerged late last year.
Many doctors have had to see patients without proper masks or protective body suits, resorting to reusing the same equipment when they should be changed regularly.
Some have even worn diapers to avoid having to take off the equipment and make it last longer, according to a health official.
One doctor at a community clinic in Wuhan said he and at least 16 other colleagues were showing symptoms similar to the new virus, including lung infections and coughing.
“As doctors, we do not want to work while being a source of infection,” he told AFP, requesting anonymity for fear of reprisals.
But “right now, there is no one to replace you,” the doctor explained, adding that all medical staff without a fever are expected to work.
“What would happen if there was no one working on the frontline?” Some 44 per cent of the 64,600 cases nationwide - and the majority of more than 1,400 deaths - have been in Wuhan, home to a wild animal market where the virus is suspected of having originated before spreading between humans.
I have been praying for them.
Been hearing stories about Christians on the inside volunteering to help.
I don’t resent the college kids. Heck, I would do the same.
CDC director: Novel coronavirus ‘is probably with us beyond this season, beyond this year’
As an outbreak of a novel coronavirus has swept through Hubei province, China, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been preparing for its worst case scenario — a widespread outbreak of illnesses in the United States.
“Right now we’re in an aggressive containment mode,” CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield told CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta in an interview on Thursday.
“We don’t know a lot about this virus,” he said. “This virus is probably with us beyond this season, beyond this year, and I think eventually the virus will find a foothold and we will get community-based transmission.”

Comment: yes, youre in containment mode because you missed the opportunity for prevention mode.
The exact reason that your cleaning staff needs to have a background investigation and clearance. Even that is no guaranty as some of my co-workers (and myself) learned.
Ping for later
