A federal judge on Thursday ordered the Pentagon to halt its work on a controversial cloud-computing contract amid a court challenge by Amazon, notching a major win for the tech giant as it seeks to prove that President Trump improperly interfered to keep the $10 billion contract away from Amazon.
The Court of Federal Claims is granting Amazon's request to stop the Pentagon from forging ahead with the cloud-computing project until the lawsuit is settled. The Department of Defense was planning to work with Microsoft, the company that received the contract over Amazon last year, to implement a sweeping cloud infrastructure across the entire department despite Amazon's legal challenge.

Amazon in January asked the court to stop Microsoft from working with the Pentagon to implement the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI) contract, arguing that the project should be put on hold until the courts work out whether Microsoft deserved to receive the lucrative deal.
The request comes amid a lawsuit from Amazon alleging the Pentagon allowed Trump to exert "improper influence" over the contract process, ultimately steering the cloud-computing project away from the online retail giant and toward Microsoft. Amazon, the leader in the cloud-computing marketplace, was the clear front-runner in the competition before Trump began publicly intervening in the process last summer.

Microsoft was chosen over Amazon. The decision was made Microsoft 'deserved to receive the lucrative deal' not Amazon.
Let me guess...
Amazongate! Impeach!
This strikes me as another liberal judge smitten with a god complex who think he/she now rules the roost. SCOTUS needs to address this problem NOW!
Having Amazon handle dod stuff is frightening.
Basically the lower courts and congress believe they are in a superior position to the executive branch.
Was there a “None of the Above” choice?
I’m not sure I like the idea of either of these companies getting DOD cloud contracts.
I wonder if it will be part of Amazon Prime?
No, if that were true, there would be no military contracts
Microsofts gov cloud is just as good as AWS.
Plus MS has better offers at the ‘edge’s of networks to more localize processing and data.
“Would you like to play a game?”
How about a nice game of thermonuclear war?
Amazon I am sure is contending the process by which they were chosen was unfair....
Which I am sure it was... because these decisions are always greased palms... and driven by politics not who’s the best for the job.
Hell, the DOD is now going to spend BILLIONS a year to be on a commercial EMR, even though they have have had their own one that was built completely for their specifications with your tax dollars for decades....
My experience with both of these companies in about 30 years in the IT industry, Microsoft’s Cloud Solutions are behind the curve... and Amazon has its own sets of issues as well. Personally I feel ZERO confidence with either of these vendors being part our vital military backbone...
But you go to war with the army you have....
The CIA was the first major government customer of Amazon cloud. This gave Amazon a huge leg up on the competition, by being able to tout the CIA as their largest customer.
But when other potential customers who had similar security requirements investigated possibly moving their data over, the Amazon cloud didnt appear to meet the necessary requirements. Speculation began that either the CIA data wasnt properly protected, or that they were given a sweetheart deal in order for Amazon to get their data, or most likely a combination of both.
There has also been speculation that the Bezos purchase of the Washington Post was related to the CIA deal, in Project Mockingbird manner. My guess is the CIA could even be involved in this contract protest, in some manner, as Amazons cloud strength could indirectly if not directly benefit them as well.
Are there other US companies who could provide the service other than MS or Amazon?
Partisan Obama judge.

The good news is this could cost Amazon $42 million.
That judge needs to get removed. ASAP.
And President Trump should order the work to continue, forcing this to the USSC ASAP also.
This strikes me as another liberal judge smitten with a god complex who think he/she now rules the roost. SCOTUS needs to address this problem NOW!

Well, it was an Obama appointed judge who made this ruling but who know if any political bias entered in the decision.
So now we have a Federal Judge impeding a National Security imperative.

Yes, right to the point!
