The Guardian newspaper famously predicted back in 1999 that by the year 2020, Spain will be ridden with malaria, the eastern Mediterranean will be as hot as the Sahara desert, flash floods will swamp parts of the American coastline and there will be almost no snow in the Alps.
While there is no way to definitively debunk current predictions of a coming climate apocalypse, fortunately we do possess failed past predictions to help put things in perspective.
In a Guardian article titled Tourist spots could be too hot to handle, Jamie Wilson since promoted to head of International news at the paper reflected on a doomsday scenario painted in a report on the effects of global warming.
Profitable tourist destinations could be turned into holiday horror stories, found the study, which was commissioned by the World Wild Fund for Nature.
By 2020, visitors to the Costa del Sol could risk contracting malaria as global warming brings more frequent heatwaves, making the country a suitable habitat for malaria-bearing mosquitoes, while increases in summer temperatures to more than 40C (104F) could make parts of Turkey and Greece no-go areas in July and August, Mr. Wilson solemnly pronounced.

No, they’ll just say, “Think how bad it would be had we not taken the steps we already took...”
Same people predicting the end since 1970, global cooling, acid rain, hole in ozone, global warming, climate change. Im getting tired of dying all the time.
Democrat crooks like Al Gore raked in a fortune on this scam... so did a lot the corrupt white liberal 'elites'... How dare they. How dare they?
The problem with that is that CO2 emissions have continued to grow, by leaps and bounds.
Pfffft, we have far bigger here in Maine.
PBS NOVA had a 2-hour show on climate last week that was fine until the last half hour when they went to the usual chicken-little sky-is-falling blather. To illustrate the amount of carbon as CO2 from car exhausts, they showed black carbon coming out the tailpipe and landing on the road. Then computer generated graphics piled it all up as a gigantic black hill for a single car implying billions of carbon piles from the millions of cars in the world. Before that they correlated the warm age of dinosaurs with volcanoes putting out CO2. Finally, they say ice cores show the current CO2 level is the most since millions of years ago, implying that with warming we will have melting glaciers, rising sea levels etc.
There was mention of the sun and how earth’s orbit meanders somewhat depending on the planetary configuration, but nothing on sun’s output cycles (though when the global warming BS got so bad I turned it off for the final 15-20 minutes).
In any event I remember reading that CO2 levels follow warming levels by about 700 years. Can anyone confirm my memory?
This sort of thing has been going on for years on PBS on most, if not all, of their shows. That includes Sesame Street.
That’s what I recall. And I also seem to recall that in years past (a longish time ago) CO2 levels were much higher. Have some egghead ‘splain glacier covered new york.
I've seen various articles by scientists, with graphs, confirming that CO2 levels always follow warming of the Earth. CO2 levels don't cause warming, they are the result of warming or cooling. I don't currently have links, but I have seen articles confirming this. Don't know how many years elapse.

There you go again (w/apologies to Ronald Reagan) trying to inject truth into the conversation...
I have the article stating the Himalayas would melt by 2020. There is still time, people.
