Democrats in Virginias House of Delegates passed legislation Tuesday to ban suppressors, high capacity magazines, and assault weapons.
The bill, HB 961, now moves to the Virginia Senate.
HB 961 originally banned certain commonly owned firearms and suppressors without exception, The NRA-ILA reports that the bill amended to secure passage. The result is that a grandfather clause was added to allow Virginians to keep their AR-15s, AK-47s, and similar rifles if they already own them.
The same will apply to suppressors. However, the NRA-ILA notes that confiscation is undoubtedly still the end goal.
There is no grandfather clause for magazines, which means Virginians owning magazines holding 12 rounds or more will have to destroy or surrender those magazines, should HB 961 pass the Senate and be signed into law.
The NRA released a statement on the House passage of HB 961:
HB961 will turn law-abiding Virginians into criminals overnight. Under this bill, anyone who owns a standard capacity magazine must submit to mandatory confiscation or face one year in jail for each magazine they own. No law-abiding Virginian will be able to buy an AR-15 Americas most popular all-purpose sporting rifle. After receiving money from Michael Bloomberg, House leaders have their hands out for more and clearly have no regard for the will of their constituents.

We don’t have a VA election until Nov. 2021.
State races are a year after the Presidential.
In the Richmond area it’s mostly people from New Jersey voting for what they fled.
How soon to lawsuit?
Yep, the good folks remaining in VA are stuck with this mess for almost another two years. Elections have consequences.
That may be the only way to stop this garbage.
Especially elections run on maps drawn by UC Irvine professors at the direction of a federal judge after the Chief Justice said in another case that courts have no role in redistricting.
“We dont have a VA election until Nov. 2021.”
That’s bad.
Allow them to keep my arse!
I’m a bit skeptical on that point — but I certainly hope you’re right.
Unfortunately, NOVA has become overpopulated with greedy bureaucrats and foreign scum.
Definitely not the Old Dominion where I lived for most of the 80s and 90s. I’m rather heartbroken ...
I will say this in all confidence, however: Northam has accomplished the impossible in just a few short months. He’s surpassed Cuomo and Newsom as the nation’s worst governor.
Did the pass a law for stop and frisk in high crime areas?
The Virginia government will, in effect, be responsible for any bloodshed that occurs and will also be the cause of Civil War in the USA.
Unconstitutional.
Article 1, Section 10, para 1:
No state shall . . . pass any ex post facto laws . . .
Regarding 10+ magazines, if possession of such magazine was legal before, it can not be made illegal in retrospect by imposing criminal liability for continuing possession of said item.
There is no limit on imposing criminal sanctions for any supposed offense should this be allowed. Owning a pizza, a spoon, an umbrella, or anything could be made a crime after the fact if this kind of law were to go in effect.
The democrats better be careful about this tyranny. A Republican legislature could make a past abortion a criminal act, or an illegal alien remaining in the United States could be arrested - oh, wait - I guess laws cant be applied to illegals.
You need to realize that should the legislature change hands to Republican in 2021, these laws can be easily repealed. That is assuming that a Republican Governor is elected.
That won’t happen without vigorous interior immigration enforcement.
We are overrun with illegal aliens.
Doesn’t look good...
They know exactly what they are doing and they don't need (or want) any clues.
These are the "Mean Girls" from high school voting for the Government to harass people that they don't like. Removing them from office is the only way to fix this behavior.
That might still be possible by voting. But then again, they are the ones who count the votes. And they might just be a real majority of the voters in this region.
I do not see happy outcomes here.
Jerry Miculek will be banned in Va overnight.
From the bill:
“A. For purposes of this section, “large-capacity firearm magazine” means any firearm magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has the capacity of, or can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 12 rounds of ammunition. “Large-capacity firearm magazine” does not include (i) a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has been permanently altered so that it cannot accept more than 12 rounds of ammunition or (ii) an attached tubular device designed to accept and only capable of operating with .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.”
It becomes a Class 6 felony.
“(f) For Class 6 felonies, a term of imprisonment of not less than one year nor more than five years, or in the discretion of the jury or the court trying the case without a jury, confinement in jail for not more than 12 months and a fine of not more than $2,500, either or both.”
In addition, felons can’t own firearms or get a CHP, although the Dims made it so they can vote.
I will become a felon, not for what I did, but for what they did to me.
Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.
