Boris Johnson, Priti Patel put final touches to post Brexit visa for Indians

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and UK Home Secretary Priti Patel have finalised plans for a new post-Brexit points-based visa and immigration system, which is expected to see the UK allowing greater numbers of skilled professionals from around the world, including India, to live and work in the country.

At a meeting earlier this week, they reportedly accepted the UK Migration Advisory Committee's (MAC) recommendation to lower the minimum salary threshold requirement for such professionals.

...Home Office figures suggest the new rules will mean a reduction in unskilled EU migrants of about 90,000 a year. Under the new post-Brexit system, there will be an expected rise in the number of skilled migrants coming to the UK from next year, currently 65,000 a year. The proportion of workers coming from within the EU and those from outside is predicted to change, with higher numbers from outside Europe.

Indians lead the category of UK visas granted to skilled professionals with 56k visas granted last year. That figure is expected to hike post Brexit.

This will boost more highly skilled immigrants from India and other places migrating to the UK. This is also one if the preconditions from India to sign a free trade deal with the UK

Highly skilled immigrants are a fantastic bargain. Their high priced college education was paid by somebody other than local tax payers, they raise the skills average in the country, commit almost no violent crimes, contribute to the GDP by helping corporations stay profitable.

Note that if there is enough supply of indigenous workers, the immigrants would not be necessary. Boris Johnson is going to make Briton Great again.

Yeah for the cheap business owner who wants to pay slave wages, for the poor natives who studied and went to school it sucks.

Hopefully that Dante guy was right and these traitors get their just punishment.

yeah i doubt that...

smells like just more “H-1B” abuse ala boris-uk style. too bad Nigel isn’t in charge.

too bad for those experienced and skilled but “expensive” British IT workers who may have to train their grad student replacements. ah well, at least now it’s their own UK, not the EUSSR, stabbing them in the back.

meet the new boss. (almost the) same as the old boss.

Yes, competition sucks for those on the receiving end.
That is called capitalism.
Many many many outfits in US have gone bankrupt due to competition. Their owners/stock holders lost fortunes.
See my tag line.

By highly skilled, I don’t mean to include computer programmers without any knowledge of other fields such as engineering, medical, accounting etc. If all one knows is computer programming, there is an oversupply of such people and salaries have dropped.

Indians are some of the hardest workers in the UK, and unlike most ethnic minorities, tend to vote Conservative. Not sure what India gets out of the deal though, encouraging highly skilled migrants to leave their country and contribute to that economy instead of theirs.
