Former New York City Mayor—and potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate—Michael Bloomberg called efforts to legalize marijuana "perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done."
Speaking at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on Tuesday, Bloomberg said on the subject, according to WBNG-TV:
"We have a different kind of problem in America, for example. Last year, in 2017, 72,000 Americans [overdosed] on drugs. In 2018, more people than that are OD-ing on drugs, have OD'd on drugs. And today, incidentally, we are trying to legalize another addictive narcotic, which is perhaps the stupidest thing anybody has ever done. We've got to fight that, and that's another thing that Bloomberg Philanthropies will work on it in public health."

I would be interested to know if he has a source for that, or is it his opinion. I don’t disagree that people get psychologically addictive, but it is not considered physically addictive.
Prohibition was constitutional, an amendment passed by both houses of Congress and ratified by state legislatures.
Marijuana legalization is nothing like that... Marijuana should have been decriminalized so it is nothing more than a garden vegetable and the commercial use prohibited.

There is more of a case to be made for medical opium than for medical marijuana.

Cannabinol is a narcotic just like opium... both come from a flower that grows up out of the ground like a tomato.
Oddly, one emerging application for medical marijuana is for a low THC dose pain relief patch. The advantage of medical marijuana for that purpose is that, unlike opiates, it is not habit-forming. If clinical studies prove out that application, ten years from now, the federal government and the medical community may prefer and promote medical marijuana pain relief patches as an alternative to opiates.
Cannabis is illegal for recreational use in the State of New York; however, the possession of small amounts of cannabis has been decriminalized and is treated as a violation. The medical use of cannabis is permitted in certain circumstances. TAXED about 42 $$ a once. Ins does not cover.
Lidocaine is a topical pain reliever, works ten times better than THC, not habit forming.
Medical marijuana has systemic pain relief effects, not the simple topical effects of lidocaine.
I tried to tell a lot of the idiots about decriminalizing marijuana as opposed to legalizing it.

Making dabs and having a kitchen accident has nothing to do with marijuana legalization.
That same argument could be used to take away guns because of a firearm accident.
Are you researching for the book? From what few articles I’ve seen it is not at all effective on Pain. But more toward the Physiological end as in PTSD. The ‘prescription’ stuff is somewhat controlled. Taxes terribly high. While wild growers you don’t know the quality or dangers of added ingredients into the growing medium.

I’m one of those odd Intractable Pain Patients restricted by GI as Gastropresis is shutting down the Colon, Kidney issues that need a low dose of 7.5 mg of NORCO to get through the day, for Spinal issues, but not allowed it. Can only do 3-4 days for Post Op. Which is harder to get than people think. OTC are forbidden too. Granny Clammpet’s brew is all there is left.

We must insist that any legalization or decriminalization contain a ban of any public funds being spent on the results of legalization. Let charity take care of them; those of you who advocate legalization will happily donate, right?
