Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hit back at critics who deride her experience as a bartender during an appearance on an episode of Showtime's "Desus & Mero" released Thursday.
The congresswoman mixed a few drinks for her fellow Bronx natives, show hosts Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, on a tour of their home borough.
When Desus asked Ocasio-Cortez how she takes criticism of her service industry background, she suggested that some members of Congress think they're "smarter" than their working class constituents and colleagues.
"I feel like people are always clowning themselves when they say that because it's like, okay so you think every person you represent that's a bartender, a waitress, a working person, that they can't do this job?" she said. "Because let me tell you, I work with some of these people and they are not smarter than a bartender."

That she probably thinks she can do.
I agree! I think a lot of them are not smarter than a turnip.
What does this say about her voters?
Boston University owes the country a big apology.
One of them for sure.*coffAOCcoff*
Well, shes not wrong.
Laughable “representation”.
AOC: Overqualified for Village Idiot
You should be zotted for posting that link without some kind of warning label notifying unsuspecting Freepers that neuro-protective compounds should be administered before watching that!
Holy crap.
As I watched it, I suddenly felt panicked that even just hearing her talk was eating my brain cells...I could almost feel them being destroyed and sucked away!
I had to bookmark that, though. Every time I tell myself that, no, Maxine Waters is the stupidest member of Congress, I will be obliged to open that link and watch a few seconds to remind myself that her claim to the title of the stupidest person in the House is not a slam dunk! AOC gives her a run for her money.
I was a bartender for about 20 years. I used to tell people....I can talk to anybody about anything for about 5 minutes. lol
Agreed. Even a broken AOC is right sometimes.
‘not smarter than a bartender’
Milton Keynes may be an exception.
I know that comment is widely used, especially here on FR,but it just isn't true.
First, you do have to be fairly intelligent to be a bartender. Not only do you have to learned and memorized how to make all the various drinks, you have to be good at dealing with money. Then,if you are a woman that is attractive , you have to outsmart all your males customers.
Lastly, she learned quickly that succeed in her new career, you have to be good at lying. That takes skill.
Now, you could say she was ill-informed of government, politics, and world events, but everyone is ignorant of some thing. Especially when you take such a major shift in employment.
With her, it’s bra straps.
I think it was bra straps not bootstraps.
For bartenders, being female and having a nice rack gets you higher tips and the customers are less 'demanding'.
I disagree. You are equating intelligence with experience.
One can be intelligent, but be ignorant of matters involved in something like politics and the world. Her knowledge of politics and the world stage comes from the MSM, not personal experience. AND WE KNOW the MSM lies like hell about everything. It's amazing we aren't all ignorant morons. They spend billions of dollars to get us to believe those lies. They are more successful with some than with others.
Bottom line, if you were working as a car mechanic, and you suddenly started to work at a Nuclear Physics Laboratory, the people there would probably deem you a moron.
The statement means nothing.
There are many bartenders far more intelligent than, say, a graduate of Boston College that holds a bachelors degree in economics.
Now that I think about that, although redundant, most morons are more intelligent than a graduate . . . .
Don’t forget:
She did NOT elect herself.
